Essbee is the songwriting project of Brooklyn based multi instrumentalist and singer songwriter Sara Beth Hooper. After years of writing songs and performing with various projects, she is now preparing to release her first solo music under the name Essbee. Her songs explore what it means to heal from complex trauma while learning to embrace the ordinary joys of a life rebuilt. Her writing makes room for both grief and gratitude, finding beauty in the tension between the two. She just completed a residency at Oak and&nbsp; Iron performing her original material, which friends have described as solidly folk and massively affecting; her songs are both soothing like a lullaby and surprising and moving like great poetry. Where does her music come from? Wouldn't she like to know -- maybe you can tell her! Noah Whiteside is a NYC based musician, open-mic mainstay, and accomplished original singer songwriter spanning folk, rock, and pop. He just put out a brand new single you should take a gander at ;) find 'Nothing//Everything' where ever you stream music! Matthew Harrison is a multi-instrumentalist, singer songwriter, and general all around indie-music scene operator from the far north (cough cough albany). Almost closer to a walking folk character than a real person, Matt enjoys parks, vietnamese food, and long walks on the beach. jkjk matt rocks out and brings a vibrant energy where ever he happens to be, riddled with punchy lyrics, overflowing with catchy tunes, and abounding with expression. Still unclear whether this dude is a real person or like god's chosen son frfr.

On the new Cold Wrecks album 'You Can't Plan for This', the Brooklyn indie punk four-piece returns with their trademark frantic energy, back-and-forth vocals, and vulnerable lyrics, as they navigate grief, growth, responsibility, and feeling overwhelmed, through a collection of pop-punk, emo, and rock songs. Daniel Backer presents a night of challenging rock music. Ewe Dew is a contemplative musical experience with literary lyrics, and angular guitar melodies performed on nylon strings. Harbor Haunts is a Brooklyn based indie rock outfit with dazzling riffs and groovy shredding. The Kingdom of Liminal space is a proggy, synthy concept project, the score of Daniel Backer's upcoming novel of the same name.

Night of the Living Shred

Every two weeks in Brooklyn, a small group of artists gets handed a prompt and a deadline- "four chords and the truth," a painting called "Too Many Animals," or once, simply: go through someone's phone camera roll and write a song about what you find. Founded by Brooklyn indie folk artist Hallie Spoor, Tether started as a handful of songwriters trading prompts instead of small talk, just looking for a reason to finish what they started. It didn't stay just songwriters — poets joined, and so did people building tracks out of electronic percussion, turning the same four-word phrase into a rhythm instead of a lyric. What began as a low-stakes accountability group has grown into something closer to a working artistic community, where the feedback gets sharper as the trust gets deeper. The rule is still the one it started with: bring something, even if it's rough.

Tether Songwriting Showcase

3 the Hardway is a 3 piece proto punk/riot grrrl band from Detroit, MI. Bustin Brooklyn is lead singer and drums. She is the soul of the project. Sloppy Joel plays lead guitar and does some back up vocals. Heavily influenced by the raw 70s nyc/Detroit punk rock (Iggy and the stooges, the cramps, plasmatics) along with femme punk bands of the 90s and today (babes in toyland, L7, amyl and the sniffers). They take their name not from the beastie boys song or any gaming term but from the 1970s b movie starring James Williamson, Jim Brown, Jim Kelly. The 3 team up to single handedly stop a US government assisted genocide against its own citizens. Finding parallels to this movies plot in today’s world, the 3 uses music to fight the evil wickedness of this totalitarian ran world that’s becoming duller by the day. They aim to break the reality, with a sound that’s so mean it’ll sonically smack you right in the face. Their mission to rock n roll is just, all while demonstrating strong sexual energy, an audible thrust. They’ve been making music together since fall of 2022. In 2023 they added a rhythm guitarist (Ary Raine) and released the ‘cost of living’ ep on cassette and the single on 7 inch vinyl in May 2023. The first show they played with this line up was at trixies bar in Hamtramck. They opened for Ricky Rat of the Trash Brats. The single was reviewed in the national publication ‘Maxium Rock n Roll’ where it was enjoyed, noted for being unique, and compared to Sonic Youth. In promotion of ‘cost of living’ some out of town shows were played in Grand Rapids, MI and Windsor, ON. They made a live appearance on the Ann Arbor radio show WCBN to promote the album ‘HWUAH’ which was released in August 2024. The album is 13 tracks and just under 45 minutes long with a mixture of melodic indie sounds and the signature unpolished sludge sound with riot grrrl esq vocals that they are known for. They played porchfest in Berkley, MI the day of its release. During this time the band made loops around Detroit playing many shows around town at places like Lager House, Old Miami, Outer limits lounge, Trixies, corktown tavern, Smalls, jobstoppers, Donovans, the garden bowl and others. They also played Ziggy’s in Ypsilanti a handful of times during this period. They opened for longstanding Ann Arbor punk group ‘State’ during this time at the diy venue ‘Packard art house’ . The group played around 40 shows with this line up from March 2023 until January 2025. In early 2025, Ary left the band. 3 the Hardway continued playing as a 2 piece and released ‘SEX CYMBAL’ in May 2025 which was well received in reviews by razorcake. The band recorded their first version of ‘can’t hardly stand it’ a cover by Charlie Feathers that was later covered by The Cramps. This was the first project recorded by Xian Muller. A fellow local musician, and friend. In July 2025 they went on a small tour of Wisconsin/Indiana with the Michigan band ‘Permanently Pissed’. In August 2025, Frank Williams joined the band on bass. They played more shows out in Toledo (Frankies), Ypsilanti (regal beagle) and Ann Arbor (blind pig) during this time. In&nbsp;November they filmed a live performance for Warren tv, a local public tv station. In January 2026 they embarked on a 4 date Canada, Ontario tour dubbed ‘the pot playoffs’ with Michigan solo artist ‘seizure pleaser’ with 2 stops in Toronto, 1 in Hamilton and 1 in Windsor. They continued playing around Detroit with an appearance on March 7th at the annual Hamtramck Blowout festival and April 25th at the Corktown Music festival. On April 14th, the 3 opened for The Meteors at The Sanctuary in Hamtramck, a longstanding psychobilly band from London, UK. On April 25th, 2026 they released their newest 4 song ep ‘hotcakes’ on streaming networks aswell as 7 inch vinyl records. In June 2026 they went on a 3 date southern tour where they play on Memphis, Birmingham, and New Orleans. In New Orleans they were joined on the bill by legendary pro skater Dustin Dollin (who dj).This summer they have shows planned around Detroit aswell as near Ann Arbor and Saginaw, Michigan. In September 2026 they will be going back to Canada with shows in Toronto and Hamilton.In October 2026 they plan to go to the northeast with dates in New York City.

Lee Bains is a songwriter and poet from Birmingham, Alabama, who has released four studio albums of what Rolling Stone calls “Southern gospel punk” since 2012. His most recent album, Old-Time Folks, released by Don Giovanni Records in 2022, explored stories of People’s movements in the Deep South to acclaim from the likes of Rolling Stone, The New York Times, NPR, and the Guardian. He has collaborated in live performance and on recordings with artists including Lonnie Holley, Moor Mother, Pussy Riot, and Algiers. After first having his poems published by The New Yorker in 2021, Lee will see his debut poetry collection, WORK LUNCH, published by Hub City Press in the fall of 2026. In addition to touring around the U.S. and Europe, Lee has lent his music to support striking coal miners, immigrants’ rights groups, abortion funds, and anti-racism organizations. He has performed and read at Emory University, the University of Mississippi, Tulane University, Auburn University, and The Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden). 37 Houses _________________Suddenly locked down during the pandemic only four months into their marriage, Jeremy Rosenblum and Erin Sydney founded the post-punk/indie-pop project 37 Houses to express the frustrations that come with the complications and difficulties of even the best of relationships.&nbsp; With Rosenblum writing songs and Sydney lending her voice to the vocals, they recorded their debut self-titled album entirely in their own living room. The album, released November 2024, draws influence from artists ranging from post-punk greats like Sharon Van Etten and indie pop artists like Built to Spill, Pulp, and Modest Mouse.

OVER THE PAST DECADE, AUSTIN-BASED TROUBADOUR REBECCA LOEBE... …has been steadily building her audience the old fashioned way: driving hundreds of thousands of miles in an old station wagon, performing in listening rooms and theaters across the US, Canada, Japan, Europe, and the UK. During her last radio interview in England, an announcer for the BBC declared “Your voice should be available for free on the National Health!” Her singing voice landed her on national television when she was cast on the first season of NBC’s The Voice. Ask her about that experience and she’ll proudly tell you that, since her mentorship with Adam Levine, “His career has really skyrocketed and I’m just so proud of that boy.” Lately she’s been indulging a sneaky pastime. “I like to write catchy songs about topics that are meaningful to me, but use fun hooks to put words in people’s mouths.” She admits, “My favorite thing is to get people singing along before they even realize they’re singing about women’s equality or their own self-worth.” In 2019, she released her fifth studio album, her first collaboration with the Grammy nominated Houston-based record label Blue Corn Music. The genre-bending album borrows equally from the worlds of intimate folk, ear wormy pop, and no-holds-barred Americana. Refusing to pledge allegiance to any single genre was a creative gamble that has paid off in a big way: Give Up Your Ghosts has received the best press of Loebe’s career including praise from Billboard, Rolling Stone, and legendary rock critic Dave Marsh, who said: “Once I put it on I couldn’t take it off.”

Hey NYC! Rob Gay here with a special showcase at Bar Freda… We’re making Monday fun again with a showcase on June 29! Allie Kenny will start the show at 7:30 PM with a set of her power pop-influenced originals. Allie is a very promising young artist from New Jersey who is working on her debut album with members of Wilco and the dB’s. Don’t miss her opening set! Next, songwriter Michael Huff will play a set of his originals — I’ve known Michael since our college days at Belmont University in Nashville, TN, and I love his mellow voice and expressive songs. I can’t wait to hear his new material. Third, Robert Gay and the Alarms play a full-band set of rock &amp; power pop originals! Come sing and dance along to that 12-string Rickenbacker chime. Last act of the night will be Shane Dan Turner with his band, performing a rock n roll set of originals and maybe even a Chris Cornell cover or two… bring your leather jacket for this set. Hey Girl Slow Down Hey Girl Slow Down emerged from Westchester, NY, forged by the camaraderie of Jake Goldin, Cory Haberman, and Steve Ranellone. Across Body Horror, Buy Your Own Toys, and Tumbling Down the Up Escalator, they embraced wide-ranging influences, tightened into faster drums and riffier riffs, and turned quarter-life-crisis dread into songs that are desolate, hilarious, and danceable all at once. This Bar Freda show marks the band’s first show in many years. Oceans in the Sky Oceans in the Sky is Liam Frost’s high-energy project, blending soaring pop melodies with punk energy and multilingual lyrics. Now performing as a full band, they released their debut album Parallels in 2023 and toured throughout the U.S., Canada, and Taiwan from 2023 to 2025. Signed to Heading East Records, run by Fred Mascherino (Taking Back Sunday), their latest release Parallels (Deluxe) was co-produced by Jon Markson (The Story So Far) and mastered by Brian Lucey (Green Day, Post Malone). It explores themes of identity and belonging while bridging Western and Eastern musical influences. Connor Lin Frost Burlington, VT-based Taiwanese-American artist Connor Lin Frost is a trumpeter, songwriter, and producer who explores themes of isolation, loss, and identity through dramatic strings and emotional brass that define his “chamber-pop” style. Drawing inspiration from Sufjan Stevens, The Postal Service, and Owl City, Frost uses storytelling-driven lyrics to invite listeners into deeply personal experiences. Since releasing his debut single “Real Friends” in December 2024, he has consistently released new self-produced music every 4-8 weeks. Frost previously fronted the NY-based pop-punk band Dizzy Bats for over a decade, touring across the U.S. and internationally from 2012 to 2023. Morgan Cole Brown Morgan Cole Brown is a singer-songwriter from Boston and a working artist in New York City. A founding member of Jump Start, The Amy Incident, and Infinite Weekend, he has also released his first solo album, Watching Your Friends Get Famous. Morgan has been developing Infinite Weekend as an independent collective/label, with new releases throughout 2025, and is currently working on his follow-up album.
