Docx is an experimental, electronic music producer based in Madison, WI. Macula Dog’s sophomore album, Orange 2 is their most cohesive and purposeful release to date and marks an exciting new stage for the NYC experimental duo. This new collection melds the hard-hitting dynamics of 2020’s Breezy EP with the bands’ own version of traditional verse-chorus-verse pop songs. Orange 2 was written during the coronavirus lockdown, a stretch of seemingly endless free time that the duo used to fine tune and perfect their new songs. The isolation of quarantine also afforded them a respite from live performance, which they used to break out of old routines and songwriting techniques while experimenting with new processes and equipment. Orange 2 is the band’s attempt to write more straightforward songs, each with a prominent lead vocalist. The vocals, which take Macula Dog’s signature processing and voice manipulation to new extremes, are more prominent in the mix than on past releases but hardly conventional. And while this distillation of their vocal sound might not hit the intended “pop singer” mark, it serves as the backbone of Macula Dog’s best songs thus far. As the band says: “We wanted to make a ‘proper’ record — with 12 pop songs, a distinct, great lead singer, and music you could dance to. Instead we have 10 songs with a singer you can’t understand. We really thought we had made our most accessible album yet until we sat down and listened to the whole thing. Over the past 4 years of making music, their sound has shifted frequently, and shows with their latest album, “A Sensation You Thought Would Stick”. Professor-wrecks is an electronic music dj/producer and artist from Chicago. Drawing heavily from house and juke music influences from the city where she grew up – Wrecks blends both nostalgic synth and electronic beats with a unique style of sampling into their own sound called “Double Dutch”. Whether it’s a mix, edit or original track, their sound will expose you to something that feels both familiar and completely reimagined.

Harsh Symmetry is the synthesizer driven solo project of the California based musician Julian Sharwarko. Blending 80s post– punk and new wave influences with more contemporary genres like dark wave and minimal wave, Harsh Symmetry paints a refreshing and danceable picture while maintaining a good sense of revivalism.&nbsp; CONVERT is a five-piece union, consisting of veteran members of Milwaukee’s long-respected punk and electronic scenes. X Harlow is the electronic pop project of Justin Schmidt (Blu Anxxiety). Based in Brooklyn, Schmidt began their music career in their hometown of Milwaukee’s punk scene playing in Cougar Den and Youth Crush. Parking Lot is an exploration of isolation and memory and how they interact when we spend extended time alone. The video is shot entirely in Milwaukee in different locations that were places often visited during Schmidt’s childhood (Milwaukee’s Lakefront, The Domes, Leon’s, Miller Park). Returning as an adult during the pandemic leaves a somber, ghostlike quality to revisiting those places while still trying to recall the playfulness of the original experience as a kid.X Harlow’s sophomore album Anchorite combines their use of dark, brooding post-punk with an exploration of Gregorian chant, ambient and hip hop. “Anchorite” gets its title from the medieval figures of the same name: those who withdraw from society, trap themselves in place and pray for those around them in isolation. Written during the darkest months of New York’s coronavirus epidemic, the album is an emotional meditation on mourning family and an indictment of the state’s incompetence in public health. The album spans through nine intimate tracks that decidedly depart in intensity from X Harlow’s April release “Feuerwerk,” centering more on a mix of post-punk and hip hop, employing complex vocal harmonies, Gregorian chants, and technical beat making.&nbsp;Influences from projects like Burial are clear on tracks like Glide and Von Bingen’s Prayer, both conveying an introspective, mystic ambience with the kind of deep rhythms found in UK dub.&nbsp;On songs like “Pyre” and “Eyes Out” X Harlow sings of the deep anxiety from grief and isolation during lockdown.&nbsp;The album is interlaced with short interludes of dark ambience; opening with the suffocating chords of “Alfred Dies” and ending with the calming choirs of “Elysium.” X Harlow’s lyrical content always tackles political topics but the execution of contemporary pop and engaging rhythm shows a refinement of their work here. Almost every song has its own hook; some are haunting while others are simply catchy dystopian anthems. “Anchorite” moves away from the aggressiveness of “Feuerwerk” and creates a direct lineage of the more bewitching and cerebral tracks that can be found on “Ceiling System,” the first X Harlow release. The rhythms are driving, the music haunting, and the lyrics thoughtful and challenging.
