But look closer, and you'll find a multiplicity of heavily crushed textures, treasures. 'Guts', with its sweetly chugging guitar line, dissolves the borders between bliss and despair. '2 Soon 2 Tell', one of the album's most gauzily romantic tracks, is both tense and transcendent. Nü Burn, a crunchy and lilting number, harkens back to the band's grittier hardcore roots. Noted for throaty, yearning vocals that accompany his swimmy indie soul-pop, Yellow Days is the performance alias of British musician George van den Broek. After some early releases during his teenage years, he began to gain traction with 2017’s full-length Is Everything Okay in Your World? Switching locales to Los Angeles, his follow-up, A Day in a Yellow Beat, appeared in 2020. Two years later, the pandemic-inspired EP trilogy Slow Dance &amp; Romance, Apple Pie, and Inner Peace was steeped in psychedelic soul. Born in Manchester, England, and raised in Haselmere, van den Broek’s musical endeavors began when he got a guitar for Christmas at the age of 11. With influences that include Ray Charles, Mac DeMarco, and Thundercat, he started releasing stand-alone singles as a teen in late 2015. His debut EP, Harmless Melodies, arrived in November 2016. Yellow Days continued to release periodic singles in 2017, some of which appeared on his debut LP, Is Everything Okay in Your World?, that October. It featured a guest spot by hip-hop artist Rejjie Snow. Early the next year, “Gap in the Clouds,” from his first EP, reached a broader audience when it accompanied the trailer for the second season of Donald Glover’s show Atlanta. Yellow Days followed up in April 2018 with the single “The Way Things Change” and a week’s worth of club shows in the U.S. that quickly sold out, before continuing the tour in Europe. The musician’s sophomore effort arrived in 2020: titled A Day in a Yellow Beat, the project was written and recorded primarily in L.A., with van den Broek sourcing new inspiration from local collaborators. Yellow Days’ next undertaking was a set of three self-produced EPs released throughout 2022 and consisting of a combined 17 songs. Slow Dance &amp; Romance began the series in April, with Apple Pie following in July, and Inner Peace closing out the project in September. That pioneering spirit has been at the core of the band’s philosophy ever since. From George Best, “an unmitigated delight” [NME], the first full-length release on their own Reception Records onwards, the band has charted an appealing, if often eccentric, course of its very own.&nbsp;With their early releases The Wedding Present had acquired a reputation for bittersweet, breathtakingly honest love songs immersed in whirlwind guitars, so it was extraordinary that Ukrainski Vistupi V Johna Peela, with the band exploring traditional Eastern European folk music, should be their major label debut for RCA Records. “(They) carry off what is basically a bold experiment with verve” [NME]. However, this was soon followed by the more traditionally incendiary Bizarro, “simply unbeatable” [Melody Maker] which featured their first hit single Kennedy.

Trash Panda began in 2015 as the pet recording project of songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist Patrick Taylor, expanding into a duo then a trio in 2016. The album title for French Cassettes’ new album Benzene—is neither an allusion to the dangerous fossil fuel byproduct, nor is it a nod to the anti-anxiety drug Benzos, but rather a twist on Huerta’s family nickname, ‘Benz’. “I wish I had a better explanation,” Huerta admits. “I guess I should have Googled it first.”The self-deprecation is classic Benz, as is this crossing of the wires between the flippant and the deeply meaningful. It’s one reason the San Francisco band’s third album holds up so well to repeated listens. Even when influences like The Magnetic Fields and The Beach Boys peek through, Huerta’s lyrical aesthetic is his own, and Benzene is packed to the gills with funny, memorable one-liners that take a twist for the heartbreaking. “My mother’s mother talks in comic sans,” he sings. “I will never not love her. I wish there were more emails to read.”Their last album, Rolodex, was a painstaking six years in the making, with perfectionist tendencies, anxiety and grief all playing roles in the delay. On Benzene — recorded and produced with the band’s cofounder Mackenzie Bunch and drummer Rob Mills —&nbsp;they have let their proverbial hair down. And while the album bears evidence of a band more comfortable both taking risks and taking it easy, they still never miss an opportunity to do something interesting. Melodically, production-wise, lyrically: There is always room to add another hook, a new harmony, a strange sound, or a little secret handshake of a lyric.

In Buenos Aires, Argentina, a six-year-old boy picks up an electric guitar for the first time. He feels the sharp steel strings and smells the wood while playing his first chords. This moment sparks a lifelong passion for music.Raised in an inner-city environment, his childhood was half on the streets and half playing music with friends. At an early age he started experimenting with drugs and also playing in local bands.Soon, drugs became a problem and he started feeling a lack of motivation and self esteem. He eventually leaves his hometown for New York City at the suggestion of his sister, in an intent to save him from a deep depression. In Rockaway Beach, Queens, Juan Zaballa becomes Tall Juan and begins his music career with the support of his New York friends, releasing albums that reflect his personal growth and experiences. His first album, 'Olden Goldies', reflect his English language learning journey and pays homage to his early punk music influences, showcasing his simplistic yet powerful songwriting while 'Atlantico' reconnects him with South American rhythms, displaying his musical growth. His latest release, 'Raccoon Nights', showcases his evolution as a musician and producer, exploring psychedelic-pop with a blend of synthesizers and new wave overtones. Throughout his music, Tall Juan expresses his emotions and experiences, evolving his sound while maintaining his authentic voice inviting a diverse group of collaborators to join him on his journey

The Legendary Pink Dots are an Anglo-Dutch experimental rock band formed in London in August 1980. In 1984, the band moved to Amsterdam, playing with rotating musicians and having, as core members, singer/songwriter/keyboardist Edward Ka-Spel and keyboardist Phil Knight. Anika a.k.a Annika Henderson is a hybrid artist. The former journalist made a name for herself in the electronic music scene, with her experimental sound collages, confrontational texts and unique way of performing live solo. Her breakthrough came in 2010 with the release of the cult-hit, experimental LP, Anika, which she recorded with Bristol band Beak&gt;, a wholly unplanned affair, which began her on-going investigation into the music, film, poetry and arts scenes. One of her most known songs remains "I Go To Sleep," a cover of The Kinks' 1965 classic. The debut was followed by Change in 2021, an album full of heightened frustration buoyed by guarded optimism spread across nine tracks. 2025 sees the release of her third album Abyss. Recorded live to tape at Berlin's legendary Hansa Studios, the album captures raw energy with minimal overdubs, resulting in a visceral and urgent 10-track journey fueled by intense emotions. With Abyss, Anika invites listeners into a space for release, rebellion, and honesty, creating an album that speaks to the turmoil of our times while offering an emotional outlet. As she puts it, “This is a space for you.” Anika is a founding member of Mexican psych-band, Exploded View and has worked across the arts with the likes of punk legends Gudrun Gut and Beate Bartel (Malaria!, Liaisons Dangereuses), Tricky (Massive Attack), Jim Jarmusch, Soundwalk Collective, Shackleton, Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop, Clark (Warp), PBDY (Brainfeeder), performance artist Melanie Jame Wolf, n.b.k gallery Berlin, Poet Ricardo Domeneck, computer programmer Raoul Sanders/A.I (The Writing Robot. 2017), fashion house Jil Sander and light artist Philipp Geist (composing and performing a live soundscape for a light installation in Tehran, IR. 2015). Her latest work includes a video art experiment called 'Anika - Alone In The City' in collaboration with n.b.k gallery in Berlin, and her guitar, synth driven psychedelic experimental live album ‚Eat Liquid‘ (live recording from Zeiss Planetarium, Berlin 2023). She has performed extensively since 2009, with and without band, in renowned venues and festivals across the globe, such as the Portishead-curated All Tomorrows Parties in New Jersey and London, Moog Festival, alongside the likes of Suicide, Tangerine Dream, Silver Apples, and Moebius, Mexico City’s Normal Festival, Tehran’s Tadaex, Berghain, Atonal festival, SKIF St Petersberg, and WWWX Tokyo among others. She interweaves dub, post-punk, and psychedelic, with shadows of dnb and a strong emphasis on the voice. Henderson operates as a writer, composer, musician, DJ, photographer, radio host and video-director.

After spending the majority of his adult life thus far in New York, Juan Wauters decides to revisit his native Montevideo, the culturally rich capital of Uruguay. Wauters explored the excitement of falling back in love with his birthplace on his subsequent record, 2023’s Wandering Rebel, but on his seventh studio album MVD LUV — due June 27 via Captured Tracks — Wauters doesn’t just introduce listeners to Montevideo; he invites them to feel at home within it.&nbsp;&nbsp;Having spent much of his career in the United States, Wauters has long carried the dual identity of immigrant and native son. With MVD LUV, a love letter to both his roots and his present, he set out to bridge those worlds by capturing the essence of Montevideo’s streets and communal spirit. Wauters recorded the album between January and October 2024 in various locations across the city, from his own JPW Studios to bustling sidewalks, rooftops, and the homes of featured artists. Having worked in the past with US-based indie favorites like Frankie Cosmos, Mac DeMarco, and Nick Hakim, MVD LUV fills out Wauters’ performances with a crew of local musicians including co-producer Leandro Aquistapacie, Mateo Ottonello, Cecilia “Checha” Rodríguez, and Manuel Silva. Wauters mixed and mastered the record with Nicolás Demczylo at Los Aliados Estudio. Together, these all-Uruguayan artists blend Wauters’ rootsy brand of delightfully simple folk-pop with traditional elements emblematic of the country. Songs like the lively “La Lucía” introduces listeners to candombe, a communal music and dance tradition; recorded spontaneously, it feels less like a studio track and more like a snapshot of a real-life encounter. Meanwhile, "Aeropuerto" and "Siempre Vuelven" evoke sentimentality through murga rhythms, another traditional style of drum-heavy music that’s prominent in Uruguayan culture. The result is immediately immersive, the sprawling coastal city of Montevideo becoming more than just a setting. On MVD LUV, the city is an active presence in the music, a character in itself.&nbsp;&nbsp;There’s a sort of pressure you can feel when returning to your hometown after a stint away; you want to be the best version of you, with some tangible evidence that you’ve made a name for yourself. Wauters has no doubt achieved that. But he’s just as susceptible to self-doubt as anyone, and on songs like “Dime Amiga,” he begins to fully realize the safety net of unconditional love he’s built for himself, layering conversational lyrics over a warm, rhythmic arrangement: “Tell me friend, how are you?/Tell me, why are you crying?” he asks in Spanish, spotlighting the power of being fully honest in a place that wholeheartedly accepts you as you are. As years pass and relationships and communities evolve, Wauters suggests, there may be a lingering fear that your place of origin will one day feel foreign. But, as he also exhorts on MVD LUV: ”There are times to fly and get lost and there are also times to return.” Wherever you are, music and love can often make you feel right at home. On MVD LUV, Wauters brings his home, Uruguay, to the global stage.

Haunt Me is the brainchild of vocalist and multi instrumentalist Darius Davila who started the band back in February of 2021. After releasing Haunt Me’s debut EP and full length album that same year, Darius recruited his friend Hilario Bautista who he had worked with before for years being in multiple previous bands together. Since then, the duo have been writing and composing music together releasing several critically acclaimed EPs with their sophomore album ‘Watch You Bleed’ releasing on Valentine’s Day 2025 to critical and commercial acclaim. The band currently performs as a three piece group based out of San Antonio, Texas. Their sound can best be described as a fusion of Post-Punk, Darkwave and Indie Rock. Warmduscher’s latest album, Too Cold To Hold, marks a bold evolution in their sound, defying the common pitfalls of sophomore releases. Cut from the same cloth as contemporaries like <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://open.spotify.com/artist/6r26MaDr8bqNALjXgYPXMa">the Jesus Lizard</a>, <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://open.spotify.com/artist/0HDP7iMYWBuM677hy7B9ce">Steel Pole Bath Tub</a>, and the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://open.spotify.com/artist/6aVjo0xHSiuW5hkasoYSR3">Melvins</a>, Austin's abrasive Cherubs existed for a brief window as part of the early-'90s noise rock underground. Their grinding, rhythm-driven songs came into full force on their fuzzy 1994 sophomore album, Heroin Man, as the band imploded. Twenty years later, with very little notice, a reunited Cherubs appeared from out of the ether, sounding as if no time had passed. From 2015 on, they steadily released new material like the 2019 album Immaculada High and 2021 EP SLO BLO 4 FRNZ &amp; SXY.Cherubs were formed in 1991 by guitarist Kevin Whitley, bassist/vocalist Owen McMahon, and drummer Brent Prager. Part of an active noise rock scene in Austin, Texas (Whitley had formerly played drums in the weirdo punk band <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://open.spotify.com/artist/6CXMa5E0zvzGEYWUJ3OdnT">Ed Hall</a>), Cherubs were quickly signed to <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://open.spotify.com/search/label%3A%22Trance%20Syndicate%22">Trance Syndicate</a>, the label of <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://open.spotify.com/artist/62BcWP4fzR8axESibNQEhs">Butthole Surfers</a> drummer King Coffey. The label released the band's 1992 debut full-length, Icing, a showcase of Cherubs' aggressive and unrelenting sound. The group issued several 7" singles and had completed work on a second album when they broke up after Prager and McMahon got into a physical fight following a show. The album, Heroin Man, came out a few months later anyway, and marked a massive change in the band's sound with lead vocal duties taken over by Whitley. Two years later, there was still enough fanfare from the group's short lifespan to necessitate the release of the B-sides and rarities comp Short of Popular as well as a split 7" with <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://open.spotify.com/artist/6xrK7WC2otcFqZSKD6MrJ6">Fuckemos</a>, both released in 1996.Years passed, and the influence of Cherubs could be felt on the next generation of noisy bands. In 2013, tribute comp Everyone's Dead Before They Leave: A Tribute to the Cherubs materialized, and the next year the group announced they were reuniting. More than 20 years after its predecessor, third album 2 Ynfynyty was released by <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://open.spotify.com/search/label%3A%22Brutal%20Panda%20Records%22">Brutal Panda Records</a> in March 2015. The following year, the group returned with more new material, this time an EP entitled Fist in the Air. In late 2018, Cherubs signed on with <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://open.spotify.com/search/label%3A%22Relapse%20Records%22">Relapse Records</a>, which would facilitate the release of their next album, 2019's tumultuous Immaculada High. They followed the record with 2021's EP SLO BLO 4 FRNZ &amp; SXY, a ten-track collection that included some new songs, slowed-down remix versions, and an acoustic reworking of Immaculada High standout "Sooey Pig."

There are six musicians in the raucous pop ensemble Sweet Crude, but their ultimate goal is duality. The lyrics are bilingual, with French and English lyrics sometimes sharing space in one song. As a gang of bodies in motion onstage, their clamor of percussion and shouts whips up the dance floor in contagious physical joy – but the tunes lend themselves as well to deep listening, revealing complex layers of both craft and content. Of course, there’s the band name itself: a reference to the petroleum export of Sweet Crude’s home state of Louisiana, an unintentionally poetic linking of two concepts operating in seeming opposition. And like the title of Sweet Crude’s latest album – Officiel//Artificiel - when everything comes together, the product is more than the sum of the parts.

As the one-man band known as That 1 Guy, Mike Silverman plays an instrument of his own invention, which he calls "the magic pipe." After growing frustrated with other instruments, he designed it over the course of a month spent haunting hardware stores, collecting odd lengths of pipe and tools with the manic fervor of Richard Dreyfuss' character in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.Despite never having designed or built an instrument before, at the end of the process he had created something that was surprisingly tuneful, despite resembling a cross between a harp, a bass, a set of bathroom pipes, and drug paraphernalia. Two strings of differing pitches are attached to the pipes, one set firmly grounded and the other able to be maneuvered as it is played. Trigger points all over the piping play prerecorded samples when struck. There's also an electric saw, and a kick drum made from a cowboy boot is attached to the bottom. The effect is something like a washtub bass redesigned by Terry Gilliam and <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://open.spotify.com/artist/7x83XhcMbOTl1UdYsPTuZM">Tom Waits</a>. Also, as the high point of his live show, smoke blows out of the top.Silverman was originally a classically trained double bass player who had been a member of a California jazz band called the Fabulous Hedgehogs. Realizing that the small fees they were being paid for their performances would stretch further if he didn't have to share them, he booked a show on his own and asked to be billed as just That 1 Guy. At the time he was growing frustrated with the traditional style of double bass playing and took to setting up drums and drum machines that he could kick while he played and removing all but one of his bass strings, playing the instrument like another piece of percussion. Still dissatisfied with the sound he was getting, he began dreaming of "the magic pipe."The bizarre instrument, the skill with which he played it, and the humor he brought to his performances earned Silverman enough accolades to come to the attention of <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://open.spotify.com/artist/0AiTwNtYX8m4uhfU7rJ8RD">Ani DiFranco</a>, who signed him to her Righteous Babe label in 2004. That year he re-released his debut album, Songs in the Key of Beotch, through the label -- it had previously been available through his website, where it had sold thousands of copies.Engineer Karl Derfler recommended that Silverman play musical saw on two tracks of <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://open.spotify.com/artist/7x83XhcMbOTl1UdYsPTuZM">Tom Waits</a>' Orphans, but he ended up playing bass on them instead. Derfler then agreed to record Silverman's second That 1 Guy album, The Moon Is Disgusting. Released in 2007, it was a concept album based on an idea for an animated film Silverman had, exploring the entirety of human evolution. That year he also released a live DVD filmed in Australia, where he enjoyed a dedicated cult following.

A couple of months after graduating from high school, Mikey Carnevale (vocals/guitar) and Richard Dotson (bass) got together as The Frights to play a one off 30&nbsp;minute set as sort of a joke. The feeling they got from the crowd in their hometown of San Diego inspired them to become a "real" band almost in spite of themselves. Along the way, they recruited Marc Finn (drums) and released You Are Going To Hate This (produced by Zac Carper of FIDLAR) in February 2016. Jordan Clark (guitar) added to the band's musical prowess in the ensuing year of touring around North America. The Frights signed to Epitaph in early 2018 and got to work on Hypochondriac. Like You Are Going To Hate This, the band’s third full-length was produced by Zac Carper of FIDLAR (who’s also produced albums for SWMRS and Dune Rats). But for Hypochondriac, Carnevale took a more deliberate and exacting approach to his songwriting, resulting in The Frights’ most nuanced work to date. After a sold out show at The Observatory North Park in their hometown of San Diego the same date as the release of the album, the band embarked on the Hypochondriac headline tour that is documented on their upcoming live album.

Conan’s doom is singular. Carved of granite. Yes, of course there’ve been changes since guitarist/vocalist Jon Davis founded the group in 2006, but the intention at the time toward superlative heavy – tonal extremity wrought with impressionist lyrics stripping ideas to the core where sometimes the whole line is just one word; they’ve always called it “Caveman Battle Doom” – remains at the root of everything they’ve done since. And across five studio records in the decade from 2012-2022, Conan have set the standard by which much of “heavy” anything is judged. And in comparison, most is found wanting. But for every time you’ve heard about Conan’s music being like galloping steeds or frost-covered sharp-peaked mountains, etc., imagery of largesse and violence, the truth is Conan are an exercise in frequency. It’s the low resonance that shakes your chest, the depth of the bass – now handled by David Ryley (ex-Fudge Tunnel) – the push of air from Johnny King’s kick drum, or the way the dark-fuzz distortion of Davis’ guitar is offset by shouting vocals cutting through that sometimes punishing onslaught, rarely to offer comfort so much as add viciousness to the crash, plod and pillage. In 2024, Conan sign to Heavy Psych Sounds as a recognized name and one of the foremost acts of their generation, wildly influential in their home country of the UK and well beyond; headliners in practice and theory alike. Their fifth LP, 2022’s ‘Evidence of Immortality,’ brought a dark ambience to coincide with its outright attack. With experiments in darkwave and synth adding breadth to the stated root purpose of aural force, it’s never been harder to guess where the next few years might take their sound, but whatever’s coming, Conan will make it kill.
