<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.instagram.com/female_genius_nyc/">Female Genius </a>looks forward to bringing their minimal sounds to The Kite! Every show they play is in contrast to the gender norms society places on women in the music business.&nbsp;An outsider artist practicing for decades, <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.instagram.com/eatfuckbuy/">Julie Hair</a> explores personal and political issues such as mental illness, addiction and the military industrial complex through varied mediums ranging from silk-screened wallpaper to metal work, and video. In her first year in New York she created an installation for the pivotal Times Square Show, which was featured in Artforum. She later collaborated with <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://whitney.org/exhibitions/david-wojnarowicz">David Wojnarowicz</a> on street art including a guerrilla installation made up of stencils and bloody cow bones in the stairwell of the Leo Castelli gallery. She is currently serving on the board of ABC No Rio, a center for art and activism in New York’s Lower East Side, as it navigates the construction of a new facility. Julie began experimenting with music in the 1980s with the art rock band 3 TEENS KILL 4 and decided that this form of expression would work for her, having the added benefit of not filling up her tiny East Village apartment.&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.instagram.com/marniejaffe/">Marnie Jaffe</a> (nee Greenholz) has been involved in the New York City and Brooklyn art community since 1978, when she moved to attend graduate film school at NYU. She collaborated with dancers and musicians designing multi-projector slide installations at clubs and art venues including the Kitchen, The Collective for Living Cinema, Danceteria, The Pyramid Club and Limelight. From 1980 until 1988 she played bass and sang with the alternative (noise) band Live Skull.She co-wrote songs for the band and released albums on the labels Homestead and Caroline Records. Live Skull performed in venues in Europe and the United States, as well as playing all over New York City throughout the 1980’s. In 1993 she moved to Cincinnati and had her daughter Noa. She also became the founding member/bass player of The Fairmount Girls, and put out the record “Seven seconds from anywhere”, as well as winning best local band for 2 years in a row from the Cincinnati Enquirer.&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.instagram.com/nikkidag/">Nikki D'Agostino</a> An award-winning "wildly creative" composer, musician, conductor, educator, and multi-disciplinary artist, Nikki D'Agostino has both performed and had her works performed nationally and internationally. She received her B.A. from The University of North Texas in 2004 after studying with Joseph Klein, Phil Winsor, and Joseph "Butch" Rovan, before pursuing her M.M. in Music Composition (2008) at CUNY Brooklyn College to study with Amnon Wolman and George Brunner. Currently, Ms. D'Agostino is focused on publishing a book of scores and recording an album of works using a notation system she developed to allow both performer and composer/conductor creative control. As a "beautifully brash" saxophonist, synthesizer enthusiast, and sound artist, Ms. D'Agostino performs actively in the NYC music scene in several groups ranging in style from indie pop to harsh noise.<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.instagram.com/janicesloane/">Janice Sloane</a> is a multimedia artist who lives and works in New York City. Her work explores themes of the body and its impermanence, transgression and transformation. She has exhibited extensively in the US, Europe and Mexico and is a 2022 Pollock Krasner Foundation grant recipient. Janice has played in downtown NY punk/rock /experimental bands since her late teens. Groups include the no wave band The Verge, King of Culture and Kilpig, mid 80's with Missing Foundation, the mid 2000's with the Wharton Tiers Ensemble and now playing minimalist guitar with Female Genius. She contributed a solo work to Harvestworks' historic audio cassette magazine TELLUS 10 “All Guitars”.A classically trained viola player and multi-instrumentalist, <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.instagram.com/annirossi/">Anni Rossi </a>launched a songwriting career in her early twenties, drawing comparisons to and other equally anachronistic musicians. Using the viola to guide her way through folk-classical-pop songs like "Wheelpusher," not to mention her unique Internet-based take on ‘Radioheads "Creep," Rossi built up a small following in 2007. After "Wheelpusher" was featured as Single of the Month by the indie label Too Pure in January 2008, Rossi spent the first part of the year touring the British Isles and inked a contract with the longstanding British label 4AD. She then retired to an Illinois studio with producer Steve Albini; the resulting debut album, Rockwell, was recorded in one inspired day and released in March 2009. After parting ways with her label, Rossi recorded her second album, Heavy Meadow, and released it in mid-2010.
