His warm voice and smart, literate lyrics have earned him many fine awards and one crappy record deal. Frequently compared to everyone from Tom Waits to Leonard Cohen to Warren Zevon to Tom Lehrer, there’s nothing run-of-the-mill here. The tight new band injects the material with elements of Motown, Cajun, funk and no shortage of rock ’n’ roll. THE VULTURES—The Vultures are Berkeley's finest purveyors of hokum, old timey jazz, blues and general filth since 2006 or so M. JONES AND THE MELEE—There’s a big wave coming and it’s getting ready to break. M Jones and the Melee is a rock band based out of Oakland, CA. Fronted by guitarist and songwriter M Jones, their theatrical performing style has been likened to that of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
