His new album “War Planes,” is out September 1, 2023 on Speakeasy Studios SF records.</p><p></p><p>Born and raised in a Latino household in rural Illinois, Jacob moved to the Bay Area in 2013. There he met songwriter Paula Frazer in the burgeoning folk-psych-country community and joined her legendary band, Tarnation. Frazer quickly became a mentor to Aranda, resulting in the release of his first solo full-length album, “Great Highway”, in 2018.</p><p></p><p>While his first album was an expression of hopelessness and longing, “War Planes” is fundamentally an album about healing intergenerational trauma and doing so through art. "War Planes," an ethereal, psychedelic country album, feels like a next chapter, with elements of rebirth and reflection.</p><p></p><p>Influenced by Gene Clark, Waylon Jennings, The Cowboy Junkies, and Ry Cooders "Paris, Texas" soundtrack, "War Planes" was produced &amp; engineered by Desmond Shea at SF’s legendary Hyde Street Studios, &amp; features the talents of friends and Tarnation bandmates, Paula Frazer (bass, vocals), David Cuetter (pedal steel), and Sam Berman (drums), plus Patrick Main (piano), Alisa Rose (violins), Jason Loeks (upright bass), Sara Gallagher (banjo, vocals), and vocalists Meryl Theo Press, Karina Denike (Dance Hall Crashers), Michael James Tapscott, and Lydia Walker.</p><p></p><p></p><p></p><h2>Trans-Pecos Department Of Dust &amp; Wire</h2><p>—</p><p>TRANS-PECOS DEPARTMENT OF DUST AND WIRE is a group of talented roots, Americana, country musicians based in the East Bay featuring band leader Marco Baroz.</p><p></p><p></p><h2>Mac Cornish</h2><p>—</p><p>“Born into the confines of Canyon Country, broken through in the Northwest’s emerging enclave, and currently carving out her own niche in Nashville, Mac Cornish embraces all the parts of her journey as she approaches her songwriting. Growing up surrounded by the Santa Cruz mountains, Cornish spent her youth under the canopy of the Redwoods and exploring the expanses of her grandfather’s cattle ranch in the North Bay. Early years found her drawn to the voices that had emanated from the Laurel Canyon legends, cementing a deep love for Linda Rondstadt, Joan Baez, and Gram Parsons. Though she’s boxed her belongings more than a few times in pursuit of country’s muse, her roots in the California mountains remain a constant part of her songs, tracing the ‘70s maturation of West Coast folk a into a proper patina of Americana. No matter how far she travels, there’s always a hint of the salt air, pine, and North Bay dirt in Mac’s songs, a coastline that she carries with her no matter where she goes.</p><p></p><p>Decamping to Portland rather than making a straight dash for Music City, Cornish quickly found herself ensconced in the city’s burgeoning country scene. While the Northwest isn’t always identified as a hub for the genre, those attuned to the underground know that there’s a groundswell of new voices taking shape under the cover of overcast skies. In rotation with a slew of other artists balancing day jobs with weekends on stage at the Landmark and the LaurelThirst, Cornish began work on her debut album, Never Made Much of a Lover. The record bundles the confessional approach of her Canyon Country North Stars with a deep well of personal turmoil; digging into death, family, pain, and the mounting pressures of societal expectations. Far from easy odes to late nights and bar lights, Lover positions Cornish as the kind of songwriter looking to stretch the sinews of the soul, wrestling with demons and dark corners, but packed with a catharsis that cleanses the listener.”</p><p></p><p>-Andy French (Raven Sings the Blues)</p><p></p><p></p><h2>Josiah Flores</h2><p>—</p><p>Part-time poet turned melodic storyteller, Chicano singer/songwriter Josiah Flores puts music to the parts of life most tend to hide from. From the foothills of south San Jose to the foggy avenues of San Francisco, he calls the Bay Area his home. Influenced by the likes of Stoney Edwards, Freddy Fender, Willie Dunn, and Waylon Jennings, if one were to sit in a dimly-lit corner of their local watering hole, hunched over a beer, they would find Josiah’s songs sitting down next to them.</p><p></p><p>His debut album Awful Feeling in 2019 as a limited edition cassette, garnering a following in the SF Bay Area for his poetic folk and country songs. He and his band have played throughout California and have become a local favorite in the burgeoning indie country folk scene in the Bay.</p><p></p><p>Doin’ Fine, Flores’ second full length album, comes out May 30, 2025 on Speakeasy Studios SF. Produced, recorded, and mixed by San Francisco’s own Alicia Vanden Heuvel (The Aislers Set), the album sits well in the folk/ country/ outlaw/ honky tonk sonic landscapes, but thoroughly rooted in life in the west. The songs explore themes of individuality, ownership, departures, family history, personal change, and redemption through folk country songs from a Chicano perspective that range from intensely raw to joyfully playful to full on honky tonk. The album ushers you in calmly, jangles you around a bit, sits you down to think, and ultimately leaves you feeling like you want to ride the rollercoaster again.</p><h2></h2>
