The Haw River Ballroom New Music Showcase is an event putting the spotlight on up and coming local artists spanning multiple genres. Skeleton - Hailing originally from New York, Skeleton mixes sweeping electronic soundscapes and intricate, attention grabbing percussion using a tastefully curated selection of analog synthesizers.&nbsp; Monkeychild - The Carrboro rapper and producer makes a type of music so wholly unique that it is difficult to place it into a genre. Grimy, distorted synths and booming, abrasive drums serve as the backing track to Monkeychild’s off the wall, sped up vocals, the energy and sound of which truly cannot be put into words.&nbsp; Diana superstar - The drummer and guitarist duo make fun, off kilter rock music while displaying noteworthy technical proficiency.&nbsp; Patchwork - The newest act on the setlist, Patchwork will be making their debut at this event. Drawing on influences ranging from classic kraut rock to newer prog acts, Patchwork live up to their namesake by delivering an eccentric range of stylistic and sonic choices that are tied together by creative songwriting and guitar riffs. Welcome to Berlin - Evren Centeno and Nathan McMurray create intensely emotional music that pays homage to midwest emo and hardcore, but carries a distinctly fresh character that shines through in their songwriting and delivery. The two also run the label Trashtape Records, which is helping to foster this new generation of musicians, sporting artists from Atlanta to Australia.
