Their live show banter and thoroughly entertaining sets have earned them comparisons to Ween, Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show, They Might be Giants, Tenacious D, Cheech & Chong, and the Holy Modal Rounders. Their debut record, American Fork Standards (2022), was well received by their family members, and a few other people who said nice things about it. Their second release Live at the Slowpoke Lounge & Cabaret (2024) captures the band's deadpan comedy and musical chops in a lounge environment that demands a proper listen in a leisure suit with a scotch & Pall Mall. Their third album, In the Kitchen with the Driftless Revelers, (2025), is the perfect listening experience to whet your sonic appetite or amplify your psychotropic induced munchies. It's also good for post-feast couch sweats, and the ritualistic loosening of the belt -- and more importantly, it's the first record they toured nationally on.Featuring the original songwriting of Ben Nelson, Matthew R. Sayles, and Jerod Kaszynski, the Driftless Revelers will pleasure a crowd with plectral wah pedal banjo tones, the mournful wailing of resophonic steel guitars, and the up-right bass bellows of an era that can't quite be defined, but revels in the timeless ephemera of weird old-time American music. With influences as varied and eccentric as a proper musty smelling thrift store record collection, the band grooves merrily through early roots blues and jazz music, to hillbilly and string band howlers, all the way into the not-quite folk but not-quite psychedelic realms of their own creation.A Driftless Revelers show will lure you in with their joy--keep you dancing with their search for the cosmic groove in the confines of stringed instruments--and will send you on your way with flashbacks of the Driftless Revelry found only in the essence of the intangible reaches of notes once played-- that then fall silent.Jake JendusaHailing from the Milwaukee area (now currently residing in Eau Claire), Jendusa has a soaring tenor voice that cuts through a room with an intensity whose only counterpoint is his drop tuned resophonic guitar -- a contrast that's haunting, soulful, moving, and captivating. His original music is imbued with themes of trauma, hope, recovery and redemption -- yet the melodic sounds escaping from his guitar weave R&B, roots blues, & twang into a beautifully unique sonic tapestry that's as arresting as first hearing his voice. His debut album on Philville Records marks his first push into a solo career since his time with his Milwaukee based "Dead Men," and the forthcoming album is a powerful first statement on this new chapter in his career and life.Wyatt Thomson Sad Records & Country Tunes Voted #2 Best New Album 2024:https://volumeone.org/.../15199-best-local-album-released...Voted Best New Artist in the Chippewa Valley 2023:https://volumeone.org/.../472/questions/12385-best-new-bandWyatt Thomson possesses a voice that echos the soundscapes of the dance halls, supper clubs, and road houses that still litter the landscape of his home in the Chippewa Valley of Wisconsin.Citing Tom Waits as his biggest influence, it's safe to say that Thomson (Like Waits) seems to have skipped right over decades of music that might have otherwise changed his sound for the worst. One of Thomson's biggest appeals is that he sounds like an artist transported from the 1950's honky tonks of the Midwest, and dropped off into the second decade of the 21st century unscathed by the worst aspects of pop country, pop music, and an industry forever changed by technology. Not unlike a character from a Roger Miller song, Thomson has the bona fides of working pawn shops, odd jobs, and scraping by in the rust belt landscape of NW Wisconsin. As a result, he's gained the street wise and cynical wisdom that is earned young from such a life. The world may press onward with its insane pace, but Thomson ambles along with a casual confidence and story telling tales that feel like they're ripped from old paperbacks in a truck stop, or found in some lost postwar beatnik manuscript.Kenny Hotopp“Rather than dwelling on regret, the song embraces transformation, acknowledging that meaningful change often begins with honest self-assessment.”– Mundane Magazine“Americana artist Kenny Hotopp pairs introspective songwriting with striking visuals in his new music video “Shifting Gears,” a compelling portrait of personal change and creative renewal.”– iHeart RadioOften, the best singer songwriters tend to have experienced peripatetic lives--wandering by circumstance or choice. This rambling and sometimes chaotic lifestyle can foster a desire to observe, to listen, and to attempt to comprehend experiences through other people's perspective--and paradoxically , often can create an equally strong desire to establish roots--and to be of a place--not just from a place.Kenny Hotopp is a damn near perfect example of this premise.Hotopp was raised in a small farming town in Illinois, with an early passion for music evident as he immersed himself in his parents’ early rock & roll and country records, and fell in love with the roots of the country & rock & roll legends. An outstanding athlete from an early age, Kenny's love of music was often competing for attention thanks to an basketball career that took him from high school through college in Los Angeles and then propelled him into a multi-year career playing in the European Basketball league.Having spent much of his youth traveling for sports, and redefining himself in various locations around the world--Hotopp gained a perspective that transcended his Illinois youth--but also compelled him to return to a place that he was inescapably of--not just from.Ultimately settling down outside Milwaukee, WI., Kenny's mid-western upbringing resonates with emotion through his own unique world traveled perspective on fatherhood, marriage, family, meeting the love of his life and searching for an inner balance that many who wander often struggle to find.
