Billygoat is Michelle Segre on guitar and vocals, Jennifer Sirey on guitar, vocals, slide, and drums, Kathryn Lewis on guitar, vocals, keys, drums and percussion. Their original songs employ haunting, lyrical harmonies to evoke everything from perky despair to transcendent, cosmic optimism. Hailing from New York City, their musical roots are a diverse mix of English Psych Folk, American Old Time, and dissonant sounds of a Post-Punk generation.Obsessed with contrast and contradiction, Brooklyn outfit Hard Nips cobbles together wiry anthems from striking riffs, throbbing bass lines and high-register vocal squalls. Built around the entangled personal and musical histories of Yoko and the Gooch, the band writes and performs with an eye and ear toward rhythmic variation, with amplitude supplied in plentiful excess.

Bambi Lake was a trans chanteuse, performer, provocateur, and countercultural darling of the ‘70s, and subsequent decades. “The Glamorous Life follows me around,” she sang in her ballad “The Golden Age of Hustlers” (later popularized by Justin Vivian Bond). Her life in San Francisco—including being on the fringes of the Cockettes, and a member of the adjacent Angels of Light—was “sort of legendary,” sort of “sweet, sticky, nasty,” and always precarious, lived in spite of addiction, homelessness, and the horrors that came from chasing and surviving her own desires. Here are her poems, long out of print, that wear “burgundy velvet jezebel bras” to seduce “fatally hetero” men, detailing the cabaret of desire amidst social, cultural, and political change. “I am Beauty,” she writes, “and the world dissolves.”The collection includes a series of interviews by August Bernadicou and a foreword by Brontez Purnell. With readings by with Silke Berlinn, Harron Walker, August Bernadicou, Perry Brass, and Kay Gabriel.

Step forward the recipient of the newly cast FIFA Peace Prize, Donald J. Trump, a titan unrivaled in squeegeeing every drop of personal wealth and prestige from hosting the competition. In this, he is ably assisted by a governing body of global soccer dripping in patronage and corruption. In these pages Boykoff demonstrates that it is possible to simultaneously treasure the skills and athleticism displayed on the pitch while lamenting their exploitation by malevolent powerbrokers for whom love of the game means nothing next to turning a buck or harvesting prestige. And, as Red Card so skillfully shows, this bait and switch is not confined to soccer. Precisely the same legerdemain will be used to distract and enrich when the Olympic Games come to Los Angeles two years from now.

4 stride piano killers battle Harlem-style—hot jazz, cocktails, Charleston dancing & no mercy. June 11 at Francis Kite ClubIn the golden age of Harlem, the piano cutting session was the ultimate proving ground. No backing band. No safety net. Just two hands, eighty-eight keys, and the nerve to step up and cut the man before you.Da Lion's Den II resurrects that raw, unfiltered tradition. Four pianists with serious chops go head to head — pushing each other harder with every chorus, raising the temperature with every round. The music will be hot, the room will be moving, and cocktails will be flowing all night long at the Francis Kite Club — an elegant intimate bar curated for exactly this kind of evening. This is Harlem Stride the way it was meant to be heard — loud, live, and dangerous. The contenders:Mike Lipskin: A direct protégé of Willie "The Lion" Smith A living link to the origins of Harlem Stride, Lipskin learned directly from the masters — Willie "The Lion" Smith, Eubie Blake, and Luckey Roberts. He produced the 1971 album California Here I Come with The Lion himself, and has spent decades championing the stride tradition across the United States and Europe, alongside trad jazz legend Dinah Lee. This is not borrowed knowledge. This is the real thing, passed hand to hand.Jon Weber: perfect pitch · total melodic recall · no mercy. Largely self-taught, Weber is a freak of nature. He holds court every Tuesday night at the world famous hot jazz jam at Mona's, where on any jazz legend can walk through the door and Weber will be ready. He has performed with heavyweights across the United States, Europe, South America, Australia... He has heard everything, and he will use it against you.Jon Thomas Juilliard MM '19 · next generation heat Trained equal parts the streets and at Juilliard and already running with the best — Samara Joy, Marquis Hill, Jazzmeia Horn. A regular at The Blue Note, Dizzy's Club, Smalls, and Minton's. Lauded as one of the most gifted rising forces in jazz today — and June 11th is his proving ground.Brennen Ernst Philadelphia jazz veteran · NYC's rising force A musical daredevil who has mastered piano, banjo, and guitar, Ernst has been a fixture of the Philadelphia jazz scene performing regularly with Drew Nugent & The Midnight Society. He is now swiftly emerging as one of the most in-demand talents in New York City, playing across Manhattan and Brooklyn with growing frequency. On June 11th he turns his focus to the greats of Harlem Stride. Do not underestimate him. That would be a mistake.Dress the part. The floor is open for 20s Charleston and swing. Come ready for the kind of hot jazz that gets into your bones and doesn't let go. One bandstand. Four killers. No mercy. You have been warned.

It reveals how legacy media presented Israeli violence as defensive and justified, casting doubt on IDF bombings, employing passive language to deflect blame for atrocities, and repeating Israeli talking points, often word-for-word. Massacres of those seeking food became “aid-related deaths,” whilst missile attacks on tented refugees were “tragic mistakes.” Meanwhile, well-worn tropes of war propaganda, including claims of the beheading of babies and mass rapes, subsequently revealed to be without foundation, were used to justify Israeli actions and obscure culpability.Andersen documents the targeting of journalists and aid workers in what has become the deadliest conflict for each on record. She spotlights the editorial censorship that prohibited the use of terms such as “genocide” and “massacre” in the reporting of Palestinian deaths. And, as global protests against the Gaza genocide gathered strength, she examines the hostile media portrayal of these uprisings, particularly those led by young people and Jewish organizations.

Join Or Books for the launch of Killing Baby Hitler with Mike Tomasky and Molly Jong-Fast!In the year 2141, the planet is ruled by billionaire, democracy is a relic, the environment is collapsing, and Illinois is home to thirty-foot alligators. When a ragtag team of scientists discovers the secret of time travel, they set their sights on history’s most infamous villain: Adolf Hitler. The mission doesn’t go quite as planned.Because rewriting history is never simple. Instead of preventing the rise of fascism, they trigger a bizarre new timeline in which Hitler grows up in America, editing one of the country’s most hateful newspapers , and history warps in strange and unsettling ways. What begins as a darkly funny scheme to fix the past spirals into a mind-bending journey across centuries, as the time travelers confront unintended consequences, shifting timelines and a future that may be even worse than the one they left behind. Part sci-fi thriller, part biting satire, Killing Baby Hitler is Mike Tomasky’s first work of fiction — a wildly original novel that skewers power, questions the logic on hindsight, and reminds us that the present may be the hardest time of all to change. Bold, provocative, and disturbingly plausible, it’s a time travel tale like no other.

Join Or Books for the launch of Duchamp Takes New York with author John Strausbaugh and Peter-Christian Aigner.Artist, anti-artist, joker, trickster, shape-shifter: Marcel Duchamp broke with tradition and pushed the avant-garde decidedly forward. When his work exploded like an art bomb in New York in the 1910’s, American arts was still mired in the nineteenth century. Duchamp, bored with tradition, reimagined what art could be, what it was for, and how it could be made — hanging a snow shovel from the ceiling, inverting a urinal, “panting” with dust and bits of string between planes of glass, and reducing his entire oeuvre into a briefcase of miniatures. Duchamp Takes New York traces this bold, playful energy, showing how this city inspired and staged his avant-garde experiments.Duchamp’s offhand gestures reshaped the course of twentieth century American art, laying the groundwork for nearly every major movement that followed. And then, at the height of his influence, Duchamp appeared to walk away — declaring himself finished with art and devoting his energies to becoming a chess champion instead. Only after his death did it emerge that he had spent two decades secretly working on one final, unsettling work, leaving the world to try to comprehend it without explanation — his ultimate prank.John Strausbaugh, a longtime chronicler of the city, puts New York at the center of Duchamp’s story. Fleeing the comforts of French bourgeois life — “wives, three children, a country house, three cars!” — Duchamp found New York instantly liberating. It was here that he produced his most radical work and eventually settled for good, one declaring , “New York itself is a complete work of art”. Duchamp’s art simply can’t be pinned down, without first recognizing his relationship to New York.

Join Or Books for the launch of Search Work with editor Rachel Meade Smith and contributors Eduardo Lytton, Jasper Nathaniel, Gabriella Rhodeen and Jordan White.Search Work asks what we uncover when we pause and examine the textures of something as mundane and tedious as the job hunt. In this anthology, made up of personal essays, archival job ads, labor research, and even a playscript, more than fifty contributors reflect on the rituals, cultural artifacts, and emotional turbulence of looking for work. Their collective inquiry shows how and why the quest for a paycheck almost always morphs into something deeper — a search for belonging, a referendum on identity, a macro view of the systemic forces that govern our lives. Through a variety of formats and voices, Search Work shows how the labor of looking does more than land us a new job; it reshapes desire and alters our sense of self, sometimes for good. The book was inspired by a free weekly newsletter that editor Rachel Meade Smith started ten years ago, Words of Mouth, which shares curated job and opportunities with an engaged community of over seventy thousand. From this community, Search Work brings together a diverse group of contributors — writers, artists, public servants, researchers, service workers, career changers, recent grads — to defang one of life’s loneliest activities through an act of collaborative creation. As entry-level paths vanish and AI redraws the labor map, Search Work offers a timely, refreshingly critical inquiry into the isolating and often absurd experience of job hunting.

Join Or Books for the launch of The Long War on Iran with Behrooz Ghamari and Narges Bajoghli. The United States and Iran have been locked in a decades-long standoff, driven by missteps, misunderstandings, and conflicting ambitions. This book, from a prominent Iranian authority, delves into the complex dynamics behind this ongoing conflict. It sheds light on why American policies have repeatedly failed to understand the true nature of Iran’s transformations and its role in the Middle East.Drawing on two decades of political analysis, Ghamari explore the history of US intervention in the region, focusing on the enduring sanctions imposed on Iran and the persistent perception of the Islamic Republic as a major obstacle to American power. Despite the repressive policies of the state, Iran has remained a vibrant society, with active intellectual, cultural, and social justice movements. The book examines these internal changes and shifts in Iranian politics.By challenging the conventional image of Iran as a totalitarian regime, Ghamari urges readers to appreciate the country’s diverse society and complex political landscape. It call for a re-evaluation for how the US engages with Iran, advocating for a more informed, nuanced approach to Middle East diplomacy. At a critical moment when US policy is being reshaped, The Long War on Iran is a timely that, if the US fails to acknowledge Iran’s transformations, both nations will continue to face new events — and the same old questions

“While it’s impossible to know if we can ever fully experience our bodies outside of the institutions that define and regulate them, Goldman’s work challenges the viewer to take seriously the possibility of a self independent of these power structures… A rhizomatic problem demands a rhizomatic solution–one that is decentralized, multipronged, intersectional and capable of disrupting patriarchy’s deeply entrenched hold across multiple domains.”– Asti Hustvedt, “Introduction” to Disentanglement/Re-Embodiment Disentanglement/Re-Embodiment is a full-color monograph by artist, activist, and filmmaker Jill Goldman, capturing five years of bold, deeply embodied work at the edge of art and politics. Developed between 2020 and 2025, the project spans video, performance, photography, installation, and political research, unfolding in a single, cohesive publication that investigates how we live inside of–and push back against–patriarchal power and environmental crisis. The book weaves over 200 images–performance documentation, film stills, research ephemera, and installation views. The content centers on ten performance works, staged internationally by Goldman and collaborators in the past five years. The book features essays and interview extracts with feminist scholars and public figures contextualizing Goldman’s inquiry within broader conversations on global gender equality, abolitionism, and spirituality including Asti Hustvedt, Alex A. Jones, Amy Ziering, Yasmeen Hassan, Sumaya Awad, Catherine Coleman Flowers, Nina Menkes, Ruchira Gupta, and Tanya Selvaratnam. Positioned at the intersection of contemporary art, feminist theory, and political activism, Disentanglement/Re-Embodiment functions both as an artist’s monograph and as a research compendium–a sourcebook on the politics of resistance and collective care.

Join Or Books for the launch of The Myth of Red Texas with David Griscom and Emma Viegland! In blood-red states such as Texas, politics operates under the fallacy that these places were always conservative, so that it would be foolish, even utopian, to propose a progressive alternative. This Sunday, from 5-8pm, Bond presents "The The Store" at The Francis Kite Club! In the spirit of Colab's A. More Store, we will be selling concrete balloons, road opener potions, various paper ephemera, and more! If you still haven't quite found a gift for your loved ones that says, "I see you don't value consumerism and have a deviant-streak, but I wanted to ground my appreciation for you in a little talisman-like gift" this is the holiday market for you ;) Hope to see u there <3 More on the A. More Store: "The first A. More Store evolved from the Gift Shop at the legendary Colab-organized Times Square Show, and appeared shortly after on Broome Street in 1980 with the tag-line 'You won’t pay more at the A. More Store'. Other iterations of the store were later presented at Barbara Gladstone Gallery, Jack Tilton Gallery, White Columns, and Printed Matter. The press release of the original store promised 'rats and rip-offs, ray guns and rock bags,' and the new gathering of material brings in an equally eclectic mix of affordably priced artworks, apparel, prints and sculptural objects. Among these are original Colab creations including: ceramic plates, puzzle sets, pillowcases, a secular tree-topper, artist-designed iphone cases, and a hand-painted raincoat. Images from the Tom Warren Portrait Studio will also be included, depicting 16 Colab artists between the years 1981 and 1984."
