A Western Wednesday Event! Student discounts availableThe Western Washington University Zim-Marimba Ensemble was established in 2024 by graduate student Caden Davis. This ensemble, mostly made up of music majors, meets weekly to shake up the routine of studying mostly Western classical music and learn this high energy music, most of which originated&nbsp;in Zimbabwe. The instrumental ensemble type, formally known as the&nbsp;Kwanongoma Marimba&nbsp;(band), was introduced first in the 1960s in Zimbabwean music academia and was brought to the U.S. in the 1970's by Dumisani Maraire. Maraire started a movement that sparked decades of collaboration and community between Zimbabwean musicians and Americans who were moved by the music, which is the lineage of this very band at Western. We present arrangements taught to us by Zimbabweans, who encourage us to share their music for the joy of all people!The Bellingham Community Marimba Project is a locally operated music education initiative directed by Caden Davis. BCMP brings community members from all walks of life together for weekly&nbsp;Zimbabwean marimba classes and supports music and cultural education-centered communities in Zimbabwe. Join us to celebrate them and their music in the final show of the festival.Featuring:Zaia, Wyatt &amp; Willow is the collaborative project of three Bellingham songwriters Zaia Grace, Hannah Wyatt, and Claire Willow. Influenced by artists like “I’m With Her” and “Waxahatchee”, their performance weaves fiddle &amp; cello with enchanting three part harmonies, transporting audiences with their original songs inspired by myth &amp; folklore, love &amp; loss, and finding one’s place on this wild earth.Lolo WawaLauren is twenty five, writes songs and sings them with her friends! She currently leads the Bellingham based band Bellflower and also performs solo under the name Lolo Wawa.&nbsp;

Donations are appreciated and help the continuation of the festivalLed by retired elementary music teacher Beverly Hoback, this concert is especially curated for children ages 3-10, but all ages are welcome. Donations are appreciated and help the continuation of the festivalConcert/Workshop Schedule:2:00-3:00pm&nbsp;Beverly Hoback presents a free concert of humorous parodies, originals, folk songs, and funny stories to uplift you and put a smile on your face. Playing mountain dulcimer and guitar in both standard and DADGAD tunings, Beverly embraces her senior citizen status as she celebrates nature, friendship, and everyday joy. Doors open at 1:30pm3:15-4:00pm - Immediately following her concert, Beverly will present a 1-hour intermediate-level workshop on using a noter to play melodies and do ornamentation such as hammering on and pulling off. Students will learn the song "One I Love," which has been recorded by both Jean Ritchie and Sally Jacobsen, using an arrangement with both Beverly's harmony and one she learned from Aubrey Attwater. Bring your dulcimer with the melody string tuned to C, middle string A, bass string D. Beverly has many noters to loan out to those who don't own one, as well as two extra dulcimers if someone would like to play but can't bring their instrument.&nbsp;

Welcome to the 2026 edition and the 12th annual Bellingham Folk Festival!The lights dim, and the room fades. A band hovers on stage right, but on the stage it's just Benny now. The ancient banjo begins to hum, then sing, then rip. With fingers moving impossibly fast, the music begins to vibrate and glow. Transitioning to another song he picks up a homemade and road-worn guitar. The slower, heartfelt ballad written for his first daughter is almost a relief. Subtly, the rest of the band adds layers to the sound one at a time. Benny's voice rings out, adding to the echoes of all the acts that have graced this stage. There is distance in that voice, and you can hear the miles and miles of road in the guitar, vibrating like smooth highways passing under weary tires.Featuring:Jeffrey Scott Mack is a Singer-Songwriter from Bellingham WA. His musical landscapes land somewhere between the dark, evergreen forests of Washington State and the cobble stone riverbanks of the Midwest. He draws inspiration from the mundane moments that unite us all.&nbsp;

A member of The Onlies and a frequent collaborator with&nbsp;Willie Watson, she has performed and&nbsp;taught at festivals like Fiddle Tunes, MerleFest, Green Mountain Bluegrass Festival, and Pickathon.&nbsp;Sami and Willie just wrapped up a run opening up for Alison Krauss and Union Station on their Summer 2025 Arcadia tour. She's a tune-writer and honored to present a new project of original and traditional tunes joined by Allison De Groot and Quinn Bachand. Allison de Groot’s banjo playing; simultaneously spacious, detailed and intensely rhythmic, has earned her awards from the JUNOs, Americana Music Award, Canadian Folk Music Awards and most recently the Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo. She tours consistently with fiddler Tatiana Hargreaves, percussive dancer Nic Gareiss and the Transatlantic Sessions House Band led by Jerry Douglas.&nbsp;Quinn Bachand is a versatile guitarist whose distinctive playing blend’s genres from Celtic traditional to jazz. Sundaze is a devotion to the contrasts of life. Sundaze explores the contrast of the soft and the hard, the sound and the noise, the ethereal and the gritty, all part of the divine cycles of life. The Sundaze sound comes from a layered collaboration of all members and intends to create space for resonance. Their music holds fragments of the members’ diverse life experiences. The backroads of America tell its truest stories. The&nbsp; heartbreak and heartbeat of the country thumps the loudest in&nbsp; the cracks between its big cities. A 2021 census in Blanchester,&nbsp; OH registers the village's population at around 4,230 people.&nbsp;Nolan Taylor isn't quite sure of the exact number, but he&nbsp; knows it's small from growing up in this place with his dad and&nbsp; older brother. His father managed plants and factories, yet&nbsp;money was scarce and the winters were brutal. Mom battled&nbsp; addiction and mental struggles, eventually estranging her from&nbsp; the boys. When he could finally afford a left-handed guitar, he&nbsp; started to write and record music of his own, grafting hard earned wisdom, heart-wrenching memories, and hypnotic&nbsp; melodies to rustic and ruddy acoustic phrasing.&nbsp;As a kid, he found solace in music. He discovered The&nbsp; Grateful Dead through his dad and developed an appreciation for&nbsp; Pinegrove. Throughout junior high, he studied classic MTV&nbsp; Unplugged concerts by the likes of Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, and&nbsp; Nirvana. Even though he primarily focused on wrestling, working&nbsp; out, football, and basketball, he finally picked up a left-handed&nbsp; guitar in high school. After graduating, he spent years gigging&nbsp; around West Virginia, Virginia, and Kentucky, playing anywhere&nbsp; and everywhere. In 2023, a video of Nolan performing “68” in the&nbsp; woods went viral with 2.6 million YouTube views on the Radio WV&nbsp; YouTube Channel. Achieving virality from obscurity and gathering&nbsp; millions of streams, he tells a true story all his own via a series of&nbsp; 2023 singles for Atlantic Records, beginning with "Wicked Ways."

She is best known for her unique stage presence and rapidfire delivery. Gallowglass has shared the stage with Dervish, Peter Rowan, Jolie Holland, and other luminaries&nbsp;of the folk scene, establishing themselves as innovators among their&nbsp;peers and captivating audiences with their signature sound. The release of their album, 'Dear Ruin' in 2024, has garnered critical acclaim and is enjoying international radio play. Niall Ó Murchú from Cork and Dublin, Ireland is a part of Ireland’s Gaelic linguistic minority and the global diaspora of Irish speakers. He has taught at Fairhaven College, Western Washington University since 2001, and plans to bring students to Galway and the Donegal Gaeltacht in July 2023.

Humorous Sean-nós Songs from Donegal

Dale and Nell Russ,&nbsp;a husband and wife fiddle duo from Seattle, play "pure drop" traditional Irish music. They have an affinity for the older, wilder side of Irish music, reflecting the deep connection of the tradition to the natural world. They encourage you to listen to the&nbsp;sounds&nbsp;of their music, rather than just the notes. They also share an uncanny ability to read each other's minds while playing - many people have commented with awe that their bows often seem to unconsciously sync with each other! Known from Japan to Ireland and across the United States, Dale has been a highly respected fiddle player, teacher, and keeper of the tradition for over fifty years. He has recorded a dozen albums, two of them solo, and worked with such luminaries as Kevin Burke, Gerry O'Beirne, and Paddy O'Brien.&nbsp;Nell is newer to the scene, falling in love with Irish music (and her fiddle - love at first sight!) and joining the community in the late 2010s. She was drawn to Dale's music and mentorship, sharing his deep belief in the beauty of the raw, unadorned heart of the music, and was honored to begin studying with him in 2020. Nell is a stalwart of the northwest session scene and has been performing and teaching since 2023. The duo's recent appearances include the Irish Pipers Club Tionól concert in Seattle, WA; Conor Byrne Co-Op Irish Music Mondays; Lark Camp in Mendocino; Barrington's Irish Bar and Grill on Whidbey Island; the Northwest Portland Hostel; and Irish céilís, set dances, and contras around the Pacific Northwest. They've been enjoying the Bellingham Celtic Fest for many years (shout out to the amazing Cayley Schmid!) and are honored to be a part of it.Darcy Noonan is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area. She started her music career at the age of 6, studying the Suzuki method with Annemarie Sudermann. Shortly after, she began studying Irish dancing with Anne Healy at the Healy School of Irish dancing. It was not obvious then, but these would become life changing experiences.&nbsp;As a young adult, Darcy realized her technical ability and knowledge of Irish music were a unique combination which propelled her to her true calling as a fiddler. Darcy has been fiddling up a storm ever since. Her music has moved her to Ireland to study with the masters of Irish music and taken her all over the world to play gigs and&nbsp;meet new friends.&nbsp;Darcy's music career came full circle when she studied Suzuki Method pedagogy with world renowned Suzuki violin teacher David Strom. The Suzuki student has become the Suzuki teacher. Now she is equipt with even more tools to teach her students, both fiddle and classical alike.&nbsp;Darcy has had the honor of being an instructor many times at music camps such as the Freight and Salvage's Fiddlekids, Golden Toad Camp, Lark in the Morning Camp, and apprentice at Fiddle Tunes. Darcy maintains a lively music studio in Oakland, CA, where she teaches both classical and fiddle music to all ages of students and shares her music at events.&nbsp;

Considered one of the most talented Irish musicians in America today, flautist, whistle player, singer, and Juno Award-winner Hanz Araki has been lauded by publications and audiences alike.&nbsp;&nbsp;Three decades of musical exploration into Irish, Scottish, Japanese, and American traditions has yielded his distinct style described by Fatea Magazine as “achingly beautiful.” As the sixth generation of his family to bear the title Araki Kodo, Hanz (short for Hanzaburo, his great-great grandfather’s name) spent his formative years mastering the Japanese end-blown bamboo flute.&nbsp;&nbsp;Discovering and relishing the melodic and mechanical similarities between shakuhachi and Irish whistle, Hanz applied his natural capacity and boundless curiosity to his Irish heritage.&nbsp;&nbsp;Taking advantage of the rich Irish music scene in Seattle, where he spent his youth, Hanz quickly became known for his exquisite instrumental work on both Irish whistle and flute and a haunting singing voice that was born to tell tales.

Alicia Guinn is a leading American expert on old-style Irish dance traditions, including sean-nós dancing, set dancing, old-style step dancing, céilí dancing, and two-hand dances. For more than 25 years, Alicia has worked throughout the U.S. and Canada, performing, teaching, and consulting for both local and national events. With expertise rooted directly in the sean-nós dance tradition of Co. Galway and the set dancing communities of Co. Clare, Alicia helps students develop joy, fluency, flow, musicality, and personal style in their dancing. Alicia’s teaching style is strongly influenced by her professional experience in early childhood education and play-based learning. Her teaching background inspires her to create new, innovative approaches for teaching traditional dance. Alicia creates welcoming, inclusive learning communities that empower students to develop courage and creativity. Alicia believes in using traditional dance to create community and generate life-affirming joy. She promotes the many mental and physical benefits of dance and believes that&nbsp;dance should be accessible to people of all ages, backgrounds, body types, skill levels, and socio-economic conditions.

Kalos is drawn to water. Every performance is like stepping into a river—they never play a song the same way twice. They make music inspired by the maritime traditions of Scotland, Ireland, Scandinavia and North America. Their album titles—Harbour and Headland—honor the meeting point between the land and sea and they sing songs about shorelines, seafarers and drownings. They revel in the driving danceability of Irish tunes, but also take inspiration from the pastoral melodies and naturalistic metaphors of Scottish music. But while the music they write is forged in tradition, it is nonetheless cast and tempered in new and unexpected ways. The trio spans three generations, three cities and two countries. Ryan McKasson (violin, viola, voice), Eric McDonald (guitar, mandolin, voice) and Jeremiah McLane (accordion, piano, voice) met over the years at highland games, contra dances and fiddle camps across North America. They made their first recording in 2016 and have been touring together since 2019. Kalos prizes the magic of live performance—breathing, dancing and weaving together like high-wire acrobats. They are as generous as they are virtuosic. Like nature itself, their music is full of chaos and chance yet always feels spacious and balanced. Their concerts are more an exposé than a performance—they are immersive, trance-inducing experiences.Lennart Jansson - viola d’amore, and Mira Dickey - hardanger fiddle (together make Sølvstål) explore the novel musical territory at the intersection of Norwegian fiddling and Irish traditional music. Their duet playing combines Mira’s expertise in the hardanger fiddle tradition with Lennart’s knowledge and creativity in Irish fiddling. The 9-string hardanger fiddle and 12-string baroque viola d’amore are a natural match for each other, both with a range of unusual tunings and otherworldly resonance thanks to sympathetic strings. Their sound ranges from delicate and tender to brilliant and symphonic, with a repertoire spanning traditional dance tunes both popular and obscure, as well as recently-composed pieces. This is Irish and Norwegian music like you’ve never heard it before!

WTF FESTIVAL 

Enjoy the end of the first day of WTF Festival with these incredible bands! Kicking off the mini-festival weekend we have Hockey Teeth starting their West Coast Run with Dollarbird and Pilot Seat.Hockey Teeth is a Seattle-based power pop band blending the high energy of modern rock with the catchy melodies of mid-60s pop. Their music offers a fresh and infectious take on the classic power pop sound, drawing comparisons to Phoenix, Elvis Costello, Hippo Campus, and Wilco.Formed in 2019 in the dish room at Western Washington University's Ridgeway Commons, the band began when Riley Adair and Joey Boone bonded over their love of music. Riley brought in classmate Owen Rollison, and the three immediately started writing songs together. Joey later welcomed childhood best friend Zach Grande into the band in 2021 to complete the lineup.Hockey Teeth quickly gained traction in the Bellingham, WA music scene, winning Western Washington University’s Battle of the Bands in only their third show. Since then, they’ve played numerous festivals including Capitol Hill Block Party and Bellingham Arts and Music Festival, and have opened for acts like Mr Twin Sister, Naked Giants, Water From Your Eyes, Argonaut &amp; Wasp, and Acid Tongue.Now based in Seattle, the band continues to build momentum with their debut full-length album, 'Cut Your Teeth' (2025).

West Coast Run - a WTF Festival Event

For the first show of our season we will be throwing a party to benefit and celebrate the opening of BHAM (Bellingham Helps Access Music). BHAM is a new locally organized non-profit with the mission of providing accessible practice spaces to local musician, a sliding scale music school, among other community services! Enjoy a night with some of the best bands in town and learn more about BHAM.Featuring:Bellflower is a Bellingham-based band with four members: Electra Richards, Lauren Wallach,Eric Ormseth, and Phoebe Setter. Formed out of friendship and a shared love of songwriting,Bellflower strives for a sound that blends indie rock, folk, Americana, and alt music with a lyricalfocus. BF released their debut EP Looking for Signs in August 2024, with more music on thehorizon!Serious Talk is a four piece with members from all over the country but formed in Bellingham, Washington. They play music with a mix of slow melodic riffs and loud head-banging rhythms sections.&nbsp;Silent Disco Club

There’s no mistaking the majesty of her instrument, nor the ferocity of her delivery.”&nbsp;Pacific Northwest&nbsp;Americana&nbsp;songwriter and performer Stephanie Anne Johnson’s (they/them) voice is like a prayer. It’s the kind of sound that makes you feel renewed, refreshed, and in love with the higher spirits of the planet. It’s a sound you can bask in, that can wash over you and regenerate the best of you all at once. Social Media Sensation Wyatt Feegrado started comedy at 16 years old in his home of San Francisco, California before moving to the Big Apple. Know for his one liners and dark comedy, Wyatt tours nationally and internationally. After moving to New York, Wyatt starred as Vinnie Corrales in the TV show Bettor Days on HULU, played the lead antagonist Jones Valencia in the A&amp;E series Chicano Squad, and depicted Jesus on the History Channel. Wyatt is also the hosts the Gen Zenophobic Podcast with his brother Luke Abranches.Luke Abranches is not your average teenage comedian. Starting stand-up at just 12 years old, he quickly gained respect in the comedy world for his sharp observational humor, compelling storytelling, and political satire that lands well beyond his years. Now 16, Luke has already toured nationally, performing at renowned venues such as Cobb’ s Comedy Club, the San Jose Improv, and the Atlanta Comedy Theater. Randy and Jason Sklar began as one zygote and later guest starred in many TV shows including an Emmy Award winning episode of HBO’s CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM, the FX hit IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA, Adult Swim’s CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL, and most recently in USA Network’s critically acclaimed comedy PLAYING HOUSE, IFC’s hit show MARON, and multiple Season 3 episodes of BETTER CALL SAUL. You can also catch them in the upcoming season of GLOW on Netflix.
