Sandra has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in 14 countries and throughout US, at prestigious venues such as the Kennedy Music Center in DC, the Chicago Cultural Center, Monte Carlo Opera House, Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, Frankfurt Cultural Center in Germany, the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing, Taiwan National Concert Hall, Korea Seoul Arts Center, Hong Kong City Hall, Granada Intl Music Festival, Recontres Musicale de Chaon in France, Brevard Music Festival, Tanglewood BUTI, Chelsea Music Festival and Masterworks Music Festival. As a guest artist, she has appeared with Charleston Symphony, Hilton Head Symphony, Redlands Symphony, Brevard Festival Sinfonia, New Millennium Orchestra, Greater San Diego Chamber Orchestra, Formosa Philharmonic Orchestra, Taiwan National Symphony, Taipei Symphony and others. Shen was the Artist-In-Residence of the Charleston Symphony for the 2017-18 season. She has played chamber concerts with Vesselin Paraschkevov, former concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and with Amos Yang, Assistant Principal Cello of San Francisco Symphony, Brinton Smith, Principal Cello of Houston Symphony and bassoonist Sergio Azollini. She has also performed on tour in Asia with cellist Nina Kotova. Shen has received several first prizes in several major piano competitions, including the 2012 France International Piano Competition, 1997 Hilton Head International Piano Competition, the 1996 Mieczyslaw Munz Piano Competition, and the 1990 Taiwan National Piano Competition. Shen’s recordings include her debut CD featuring Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto, and the Saint-Saëns “Carnival of the Animals”, both released on the Taiwan Rolling Stone Music label. "Momentum", with cellist Miriam Smith, was released in 2022 on Azica Records. As an educator, Shen is the Piano Chair of San Francisco Conservatory of Music PreCollege, Piano Lecturer at Stanford University starting Fall 2025, and Faculty at Masterworks Festival. She served as guest faculty for Tanglewood BUTI Young Artist Piano Program, and on the piano faculty at the Brevard Music Festival, Steinway Society Summer Music camp, Music @Tetauchi, American Fine Arts Festival in Europe and others. She also served as piano faculty at Southern Illinois University and has been frequently invited to be Distinguished Guest Faculty at Furman University. Her students have received top prizes from various competitions including International Piano Competition of Orléans for the youth in France, the Chopin Foundation, American Virtuoso International and others. Sandra performed live for WCQS radio station in Asheville, filmed a 4-part series titled “The Movements of the Master composers” for Hong Kong TV, and “Inspiration From Above” featuring spiritual lives of the composers for US Creation TV. She also hosted a classical music program on Taiwan IC broadcast radio station. Mixing music and philanthropy, Sandra has played benefit concerts for disaster victims, foster children, firefighters, and music education for underprivileged children. Sandra was born in Taiwan and received her Bachelor and Master of Music with a piano performance major and organ minor from the Peabody Conservatory of Music, where she studied with legendary pianist, Ann Schein and organist Donald Sutherland. Her teachers include Zalina Gurevich and Oleg Barsov, Raymond Hanson, Dr. Michael Dellinger, Jorg Demus, Ruth Slencynska, Thomas Laratta, Erna Gulabyan, and Haggai Niv.&nbsp; She lives in the San Francisco Bay area.

Chuck Dingée has been playing guitar and singing professionally for over 40 years. His extensive repertoire of classic rock, folk-rock, and other tunes is quite diverse. His vocal power and musical abilities can wow big festival audiences and rock nightclubs, but he can also charm families at Farmers Markets or restaurants, or couples at weddings.Chuck was inspired by the Beatles, who he saw in Chicago in 1966. He plays quite a few Beatles songs, including popular hits like&nbsp;She Loves You,&nbsp;All You Need Is Love, and&nbsp;Yesterday; Romantic love songs like&nbsp;Till There Was You,&nbsp;I Will, and&nbsp;In My Life; and fun rockers such as&nbsp;I Am The Walrus,&nbsp;A Day In the Life, and&nbsp;While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

Checo Tohomaso performs as his one-man-Motown “Sweet Soul” band, with a string of popular hits suitable for all audiences and special occasions. Checo Tohomaso, has performed with Grammy Award-winning legends, such as Marvin Gaye, who helped to shape the sound of Motown Records in the 1960’s, and Lionel Richie, musician, songwriter, recording artist and co-lead singer of the musical group the Commodores. Sherman Andrus gospel vocal - Truly, one of gospel music’s living legends, Sherman Andrus has ministered to millions of people during his career that spans more than six decades and 40 recording projects. This Grammy Award-winning singer has twice been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall Of Fame, and has sang with such household names as The Imperials, Andre Crouch And The Disciples, Andrus Blackwood And Company, and more. He has made appearances as part of Bill Gaither’s Homecoming entourage, and has sang for Elvis Presley.Aside from performing in churches, venues, and arenas, Sherman has also been able to expand his outreach ministries to include visits to extreme parts of the world, including Poland, India, Nigeria, Indonesia, Haiti, and Guyana. He has also been able to minister in prisons, schools, and hospitals. To this day, Sherman continues to add more credits to his name, including songwriter, producer, arranger, and author. As a consultant, he has also helped to shape the futures of many aspiring artists.

Northwinds Quintet Classical - Northwinds woodwind quintet was formed in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic out of a common love of playing and sharing chamber music.The members of Northwinds are as diverse as the instruments that they play. Among us you will find an avid birder and mycologist, an accountant who claims to be retired, a former lawyer turned tennis club owner, and two music teachers who find their joy in singing and playing music with youngsters. In addition, Beverly Dooley, flute; Ken Bronstein, oboe; Barry Ulman, clarinet; Jackson Stewart-DeBelly, bassoon; and Doug Robertson, horn are also well-trained musicians who perform with various local ensembles including the Skagit Symphony, Bellingham Symphony Orchestra, What the Chelm, Clearbrook Dixie Band, Jimmy Lindquist Big Band, and Millie and the Mentshn.Together, Northwinds has an ever-expanding and diverse repertoire that draws on various genre all the way from arrangements of 17th century dances through works by 21st century composers including our resident composer, arranger, and clarinetist, Barry Ulman.

Weston Block (age 14) is currently a freshman at Squalicum High School. He has studied with Kay Zavisklak since he was 4 years old. He has received gold awards in the Sonata and Sonatina festival, and honorable mention in the WSMTA playoff. Currently Weston performs with the Jazz Center’s top combo and around Bellingham with his pop fusion band, Tornado Beach.

Gospel Singing Workshop

The Pearce Family Bluegrass The Pearce Family Bluegrass Band was initially formed in 1986, when Traci put out an ad for a bass player in the Little Nickel and Doub responded. They were soon married, and added band members Wil, Molly and Cate who joined the stage as soon as they could hold their instruments and were sufficiently potty-trained. The family began touring together in 2004, playing shows all over the United States.&nbsp;They moved to Lynden five years ago and been influential at our music scene ever since. Elsa Jonson is a senior WCC Running Start student from Bellingham studying violin and piano under the guidance of Lisa Humphrey, Dawn Posey, and Dr. Kay Zavislak. Elsa is involved in a variety of local music groups including the Bellingham Symphony Orchestra and Bellingham Youth Chamber Players. Recent awards were received for the WSMTA Outstanding Artist Piano Competition, BMC Strings and Piano Competitions, BSO Young Artist, and the Harmony Chamber Music Festival. In addition to music, she enjoys distance running and reading a good book.

Whether you’re a lifelong polka fan or simply in the mood for something lively, this concert promises laughter, energy, and—above all—polka joy for everyone.Smilin’ Scandinavians Polka - The Smilin' Scandinavians, widely regarded as Seattle's #1 polka band, have been around since May 17, 1995, when bandleader Toby Hanson got a group of his friends at Cornish College of the Arts to form a polka band. Since that time they've built a reputation as one of the Northwest's most fun and entertaining polka bands. They have completed two tours which took them back to the Midwest, released three albums on the Lutefisk Records Label and traveled widely around the Pacific Northwest spreading their own irreverent brand of polka fun.The band is well known for their mix of Midwestern polka, Scandinavian folk, traditional country western, Dixieland and big band swing. Besides being a highly-regarded dance band, the Smilin' Scandinavians are also a top-notch show band, mixing in humor and unpredictable antics to keep even the grumpiest crowd smiling. Whether playing at one of the nation's top polka festivals or taking the stage at a county fair, the Smilin' Scandinavians are always happy to entertain with some good, toe-tappin' music.The name "Smilin' Scandinavians" was inspired by both The Happy Norwegian Myron Floren (of Lawrence Welk Show fame) and pioneer polka performers The Six Fat Dutchmen. Many people find the notion of smiling Scandinavians odd since Scandinavians have a well-deserved reputation of dour stoicism. The band does all it can to show just how much fun Scandinavians are capable of.

Polka Joy For Everyone

The Patio Players evolved during Covid. Our quartet wanted to keep live music available to people during the lockdown so we began to play on patios, outdoors at many homes and retirement centers, and businesses. We play many different styles of music, from classical to folk to modern. We have enjoyed playing at weddings, lavender fields, bookstores and coffee shops shops this past year. Indoors and outdoors! Kristen Jensen, violin Sarah Mcpherson Hanson, violin Joanne Dudley, viola Deidre Kane, cello Kristen Jensen is our first violinist. She is somewhat new to the area, hailing from Texas where she was a music teacher and staple at outdoor festivals. She is a member of the group, Earl Grey in the Morning, a teacher at Evergreen Music School and has a studio at the Jansen Arts center in Lynden. She will be performing in The Clockmakers Daughter this July. We are lucky to add her to the Patio Players!Sarah Mcpherson Hanson plays second violin with us. She is also a recent addition to the Bellingham music scene. Sarah graduated from Cal Poly Pomona as a music major and decided to give our area a try. We are happy she did! Sarah teaches at Evergreen Music studio. She recently married and we were fortunate to play at her wedding. Joanne Dudley plays viola. She has lived in Lynden for many years and has played in the Bellingham Symphony orchestra. Joanne is active in music at her church, as a Patio Player and participates in the Jansen Arts Center classes and performances. Deidre Kane is our cello player. She formed the group and works hard to keep us relevant and playing. Deidre has played in the North Sound Community Orchestra and has been in the orchestra for many musicals at Lynden High School and Lynden Christian High School. One of her favorite community events is the Messiah play along each November. Any musician or singer can show up and for two hours play Handel’s Messiah.

Maria Horja is an 12th grade student at Sehome High School. She began playing piano with Katie O’Rourke at age 5 and has been studying with Judith Widrig since 2017.&nbsp;Maria was a concerto winner at the Seattle Young Artists Festival in 2023 and was awarded 1st place at the Outstanding Artists Competition in 2022 as well as WSMTA Chapter Competition. She has received recognition at festivals and competitions including Gold Medals at the Bach Festival in Seattle and Russian Festival in Bellevue and 1st place at the Bellingham Music Club Concerto Competition in 2023 and 2024.&nbsp;She enjoys playing tennis in her free time, in addition to violin as concertmaster of her high school orchestra. Maria has two younger sisters who also play the piano.

Adding sparkle and serenity, harpist Jill Whitman graces the stage, while the ever-delightful Smiling Scandinavians invites us to tap our toes with spirited polka and other tunes.Tonight also marks a milestone-the very first concert in the brand-new Rubus Event Center. We're honored to begin its story with a celebration of music in all its flavors. Sherman Andrus Gospel vocal - Truly, one of gospel music’s living legends, Sherman Andrus has ministered to millions of people during his career that spans more than six decades and 40 recording projects. This Grammy Award-winning singer has twice been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall Of Fame, and has sang with such household names as The Imperials, Andre Crouch And The Disciples, Andrus Blackwood And Company, and more. He has made appearances as part of Bill Gaither’s Homecoming entourage, and has sang for Elvis Presley.Aside from performing in churches, venues, and arenas, Sherman has also been able to expand his outreach ministries to include visits to extreme parts of the world, including Poland, India, Nigeria, Indonesia, Haiti, and Guyana. He has also been able to minister in prisons, schools, and hospitals. To this day, Sherman continues to add more credits to his name, including songwriter, producer, arranger, and author. As a consultant, he has also helped to shape the futures of many aspiring artists. Wendy Donaghy Soprano - Wendy stays busy as a soprano soloist for concerts, special events, sacred cantatas, operas, recordings, funerals, and weddings throughout the Pacific Northwest. Wendy enjoys singing many genres of music and sharing the works of gifted composers is her life’s passion. Her most challenging role to date: Delivering Gluck’s Pallas Athene’s ambitious aria balancing from the top an eight foot ladder with six foot wings of gold!Smilin’ Scandinavians Polka - The Smilin' Scandinavians, widely regarded as Seattle's #1 polka band, have been around since May 17, 1995, when bandleader Toby Hanson got a group of his friends at Cornish College of the Arts to form a polka band. Since that time they've built a reputation as one of the Northwest's most fun and entertaining polka bands. They have completed two tours which took them back to the Midwest, released three albums on the Lutefisk Records Label and traveled widely around the Pacific Northwest spreading their own irreverent brand of polka fun.The band is well known for their mix of Midwestern polka, Scandinavian folk, traditional country western, Dixieland and big band swing. Besides being a highly-regarded dance band, the Smilin' Scandinavians are also a top-notch show band, mixing in humor and unpredictable antics to keep even the grumpiest crowd smiling. Whether playing at one of the nation's top polka festivals or taking the stage at a county fair, the Smilin' Scandinavians are always happy to entertain with some good, toe-tappin' music.The name "Smilin' Scandinavians" was inspired by both The Happy Norwegian Myron Floren (of Lawrence Welk Show fame) and pioneer polka performers The Six Fat Dutchmen. Many people find the notion of smiling Scandinavians odd since Scandinavians have a well-deserved reputation of dour stoicism. The band does all it can to show just how much fun Scandinavians are capable of. Jill Whitman Harp - Jill Whitman, harpist, received degrees in harp and German language from the University of Washington. After completing her master’s degree in music, she toured with Community Concerts for several years in a classical, celtic and Paraguayan harp trio. She won the American Harp Society Concert Artist award, and has toured in Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Poland, and Canada. She currently performs with the Whatcom Symphony, as well as the Washington-Idaho and Yakima Symphonies. She teaches harp in WWU’s music department, and serves on the national Suzuki harp repertoire committee. She is the founder of the NOEL ensemble, a celtic/classical ensemble of strings, flute, percussion and poetry that tours the Northwest in the holiday season. Nova Antiqua Quartet Baroque - Music Historians define the Baroque Period of Western Classical Music by the styles and performance practices prevalent during the century-and-a-half between 1600 and 1750 AD. In the hearts of many, Baroque has never died. Discovery and revivification of Ancient Music has long been a modern pursuit, creating rare joy for scholars, musicians and audiences! In concert with that pursuit, a group of performers in Bellingham and surrounding cities was willingly formed in 2024, through the vision of master violinist and pedagogy, Carolyn C. Canfield, to work, learn and perform together in the spirit of Baroque. We are Nova Antiqua Players! We happy few colleagues and friends are a fraternal band with a unified mission. Nathaniel holds degrees from Wheaton College, Indiana University Bloomington, UNC Greensboro, and Central Washington University.Nathaniel and Julianne, husband and wife, have performed all over the world in their musical career together.Nathaniel is currently Assistant Principal and Choir Director at Lynden Christian High School, part-time faculty for Lee University Online, and a member of the 208th Army Reserve Band. Julianne runs a full private voice studio of professionals and aspiring singers online and in Lynden, WA.Wade Dingman pianoWade Dingman is a multi-faceted performer, coach, and accompanist. He started building his broad record of organ performance experience following his postgraduate organ studies at Pacific Lutheran University where he was one of four organists chosen nationally to perform in the international symposium The Organ in the New Millenium. He holds a Master of Music in Organ Performance from the University of Notre Dame and Germany's highest degree in Organ Performance from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Rostock, Germany. Equally at home as organist, pianist, or vocal accompanist, Wade has performed extensively in the Pacific Northwest and throughout Europe, in venues such as St. Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh, Scotland; Marienkirche, Stralsund, Germany; Yorkminster, England; Schloss Leopoldskron in Salzburg, Austria;&nbsp; American Embassy in Berlin, Germany; Italy, Hungary, St. Mark’s Cathedral, Seattle, Bellingham Festival of Music, Pacific Northwest Opera, North Carolina and New York.&nbsp;&nbsp;A native of Washington State, Wade is a graduate from Western Washington University who holds degrees in both Piano and French. He furthered his studies in piano, vocal accompanying and opera coaching in Salzburg and Graz, Austria; and has worked in Austria, Germany and Italy as a vocal coach, language coach and accompanist. He currently serves as Principal Organist at University Presbyterian Church in Seattle.&nbsp;

Checo Tohomaso, has performed with Grammy Award-winning legends, such as Marvin Gaye, who helped to shape the sound of&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://classic.motown.com/">Motown Records</a>&nbsp;in the 1960’s, and Lionel Richie, musician, songwriter, recording artist and co-lead singer of the musical group the&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commodores">Commodores</a>.

Freedom Celebration Singers Choir is a Canadian choir with a diverse group of individuals who share a deep love for music and the power of singing.They form a vibrant community that blends their voices to create captivating four-part harmonies. Their music celebrates the freedom they have cherished in their great country. In a world that has faced its share of challenges, they strive to spread joy, hope, peace, and love through our performances.Hans Kruger is the Artistic Director and Co-Founder of the choir. He is a musician with a unique journey and a heart full of passion! Growing up in Southern Brazil, Hans faced limited opportunities to pursue his musical dreams. It wasn't until his late teens that he discovered his love for singing and the harmonies that touched his soul. His musical flame ignited in college during the late '70s and early '80s, leading him to study conducting with the inspiring Dr. William (Bill) Baerg in Winnipeg.Throughout his musical career, Hans has conducted choirs in Canada and Lisbon, Portugal. For 13 years, he led the Evensong Chamber Singers in Chilliwack, nurturing their voices and creating beautiful harmonies. In early 2023, Hans and Ewa founded Freedom Celebration Singers.Hans has also shared his voice with other renowned choirs, such as the Valley Festival Singers, Fraser Valley Chamber Choir, West Coast Mennonite Chamber Choir (featured on 11 recordings), Jubilate Vocal Ensemble in Vancouver, and The Watchmen Four (a delightful male quartet). Together with Ewa, he is the driving force behind the creation of Freedom Celebration Singers.As a local business owner, Hans approaches music as a cherished hobby, pouring his heart and soul into every note.Ewa Telega is their pianist and Co-Founder. Her piano playing is passionate and captivating. Ewa Telega enchants audiences with vivid performances of the works of Frederic Chopin and others. Originally from Poland, she has graced the stages of her native country, Switzerland, the USA, and Canada.As a regular performer, Ewa has showcased her musical talent with performances of Mozart’s Double Piano Concerto KV 365, the captivating two-piano part of Brahms' German Requiem, and many others.Ewa's extraordinary artistry extends beyond the stage. She had the honour of giving a command performance for the leader of the Polish Solidarity Movement, Lech Wałęsa, in Los Angeles.Dedicated to sharing her knowledge and expertise, Ewa is a collaborative pianist and a teacher. She has guided numerous students to success in festivals, exams, and recitals.

Folkert-Hans Tolsma returns to the stage but this time his performance is for kids, moms and dads, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles, the whole family!He will be visiting some elementary schools during the Lynden Music Festival week so many younger children will have seen him and will definitely want to bring the family along to enjoy a time of fun music, laughter and free ice cream together!<hr>Folkert-Hans Tolsma - Born into a musical family in The Netherlands, Folkert-Hans Tolsma grew up listening to the music of Phil Collins, and he started playing trumpet at an early age. He has had a passion for music all of his life, and he is very much looking forward to be returning to the Lynden Music Festival again this year!Folkert-Hans developed his musical style while playing with a Bicycle “Show Band” named Crescendo, then with Mealox, and finally with Lays and The Tailgators. There’s no better way to start your Saturday morning than listening Jazz Standards and enjoying a cup of coffee.<hr>Etsuko Tomeda studied classical and jazz piano and has entertained all ages for all occasions. She received strict classical training during her childhood. After a while of teaching and performing classical music, Etsuko got drawn to jazz and studied jazz improvisation with Dan Lawrence, a composer and a staff pianist at Atlanta’s Ritz Carlton Hotel. Etsuko has performed in several states including Washington and around Japan as a soloist and a member of combos. Etsuko and Doub Pearce have been performing together as a duo in the Lynden area since 2023.

Singer/rhythm guitar player, Jacob Brouwer and drummer/singer Jon Brouwer are brothers and met bassist J Young playing on a local church worship team and lead guitar/singer Cole Kuplent was recruited at the group’s inception to finalize this line up of close friends. The inspiration that keeps the band performing is the thrill of live performance. Dial-Up’s live shows are an opportunity to bring high-energy performances of the music that inspired them with a mission to transport audiences both young and old(‘ish) back to the 90’s. Dial-Up looks forward to bringing their collective passion for this era's iconic sounds &amp; infectious energy to the Lynden Music Festival this year.The Neon Shadows - A tribute to the BEST era, the 1980s! ...new-wave and dance pop, and a smidge of ROCK! Stan Kenton played a major role in advancing the early career of The Four Freshmen, and their unique sound strongly influenced other vocal groups, such as Manhattan Transfer, Take 6 and the Beach Boys. Although the names and faces have changed over the last nearly 75 years, the harmony and legendary sound of The Four Freshmen continue to fascinate audiences worldwide. The Four Freshmen style has been responsible for over 50 albums, 70 top selling singles and six Grammy nominations. Voted as Downbeat Magazine's Vocal Group of the Year in 2000 and 2001 and Vocal Group of the Year for 2007 by Jazz Times magazine, they received the "Satchmo" award in 2010 and were presented with a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars in 2013.Today's Four Freshmen ensemble is considered by many to be the greatest jazz vocal group of all time. Swing Connection hosts a big band event every summer, Big Band Bonanza, with two other bands: A’Town Big Band and Skagit Swings. The group has a strong following of people who enjoy music of the Big Band era, and several original members are still playing!The band was started nearly 20 years ago by local jazz enthusiasts Bob Sanders and Kelvin Smith under the name Fourth Corner Jazz Band. The Bellingham Senior Center and Bellingham High School provided rehearsal space in those years, and as the band grew, it has since held rehearsals at the First Baptist Church where one of the trombonists, Jeff Flint, is the Pastor. As time has passed, talented local directors have taken the conducting reins: Matt Cole, Bob Storms, and currently Phil Heft. When Don Phillips joined the band, he brought with him a comprehensive library of Big Band music, and he programmed and occasionally conducted the group.The band operates with an active and dedicated Board, which is made up exclusively of band members. The current board includes Phil Heft, David Sattler, Tim Buckley, Bob Hiorns, and Curt Veldhuisen. Career highlights include premiering the role of Tomasz in the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s The Property, solo recitals for the Carnegie Hall Great Singers III Series and the Carnegie Hall Neighborhood Concert Series, Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti at the Ravinia Festival, as Don Giovanni for the Oklahoma Mozart Festival, a solo WTVP Public Television Special entitled “The American Songbook,” a concert of laments by Monteverdi and Weckmann at Duke University for the Society for Seventeenth-Century Music 2019 Annual Meeting, and solo appearances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Peoria Symphony Orchestra, Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra, and the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic.Nathaniel and his professional vocalist wife Jules have performed and taught together across the world including for a Rhein Riverboat Cruise, on tour with the Far East Broadcasting Company in South Korea, many concerts across Indonesia, and ongoing concerts across the USA. Nathaniel holds degrees from Wheaton College, Indiana University Bloomington, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and Central Washington University. Apart from teaching and performing, Nathaniel enjoys spending quality time with his beloved Jules and their daughter Freya.<hr>Dr. Julianne Olson, has performed on four continents and nearly 20 countries as a professional singer. After graduating from Mt. Baker High School in 2004, Julianne left Whatcom County to attend Boston Conservatory. Since then, she has worked with such companies as Lyric Opera of Chicago in the world premiere of The Property with Lyric Unlimited, Opera Roanoke, Triad Stage, Hungarian National Theater of Szeged and Pécs in The Crucible, Princeton Festival in Threepenny Opera and concertized with Ashville Lyric Opera, Seattle International Artists Series, with Ravinia in Concert am Rheim/Ravinia in concert in Tuscon, Scottsdale and Palm Springs, at Rose Theater, Lincoln Center NYC, Peoria Symphony as Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, Denver International Festival of Arts and Technology, and as a vocal soloist on tour throughout South Korea, England, China and Indonesia. Julianne has twice been awarded from the Metropolitan Opera National Council and has performed such roles as Butterfly in Madame Butterfly, Mimi in La Boheme, Pamina in The Magic Flute, Antonia in Tales of Hoffman, Tatiana in Eugene Onegin, the Beggar Woman in Sweeney Todd, and Musetta in La Boheme. An active cross over artist, Julianne was the house jazz singer for 4 years at Mambo Italian in NYC.As a professor/voice instructor, Julianne has served on the faculties of Elon University (one of the finest Musical theater programs in the country), Radford University, University of North Carolina Greensboro, Averett University, Lee University and as the Coordinator of Contemporary Voice at Universitas Pelitas Harapan in Indonesia. As a guest clinician, she has taught at Kangnam University in South Korea, throughout the archipelago of Indonesia and central Africa. Formerly, Julianne has held such positions as Teaching Artist at Chicago Opera Theater Opera for All, Midori and Friends NYC, Singer's Forum NYC/ cabaret voice teacher for Don’t Tell Mama’s NYC, Project Leader with Sing for Hope NYC and recently as the Director of Musical Theater at Opera Viva in Verona, Italy. An active scholar and researcher, Julianne recently presented her dissertation at the National Society of Ethnomusicology Conference at Indiana University on a panel entitled, “Sounding Environmental Justice: Music as Eco-activism on Land and at Sea.”Julianne holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts with a Cognate in Vocal Pedagogy from The University of North Carolina in Greensboro. In addition, Dr. Olson also holds voice degrees from Boston Conservatory, New Jersey City University, and Indiana University.Longing for a simpler life after welcoming their miracle child into the world last year, Julianne and her husband Nathaniel returned to Julianne’s “home” after living away for nearly 20 years. Now, Julianne runs a full private home voice studio in Lynden, WA.<hr> Terhi Miikki-Boersma is a multi-talented musician who earned a Master’s Degree in Music at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and worked full-time as a cantor-organist before moving to the United States Chamber music has always been close to her heart, either accompanying on piano, organ or cembalo or playing bassoon. Terhi is also an accomplished and enthusiastic organizer of numerous music events and concerts both in Finland and in the United States. She is the founder of Lynden Music Festival.

Our 2016 Festival Performer Folkert-Hans Tolsma returns back to Lynden from Netherlands!With his vocals, trumpet and saxophone he turns festivals into big parties, creates the right atmosphere and makes every occasion unique.<hr>Folkert-Hans Tolsma - Born into a musical family in The Netherlands, Folkert-Hans Tolsma grew up listening to the music of Phil Collins, and he started playing trumpet at an early age. He has had a passion for music all of his life, and he is very much looking forward to be returning to the Lynden Music Festival again this year!Folkert-Hans developed his musical style while playing with a Bicycle “Show Band” named Crescendo, then with Mealox, and finally with Lays and The Tailgators. The Festival's Opening Night will be a great celebration of our 15 year Festival journey in our community. Our very first opening concert was with the Whatcom Symphony Orchestra October 6th, 2009! All of these years, we have been celebrating a lot of different genres of music with hundreds of musicians from near and far. Lynden Music Festival is humbled and grateful that pianist Judith Widrig and violinist Carolyn Canfield will be amongst our musicians this year.&nbsp;&nbsp; Carolyn Canfield, violin and Judith Widrig, pianoCarolyn Canfield - Heralding from Seattle with studies at the Univ of Wash, Fulbrights to Cologne Hochschule, Germany, and Early Music studies at Tafelmusik in Toronto, Carolyn Canfield enjoys a diverse career as a performer, adjudicator, and teacher/coach for all ages. Recent teaching has included the Sooke Adult Chamber Music Workshop on Vancouver Island, B.C., and upcoming performances include the Bellingham Festival of Music summer season 2024.Violin teachers have included the infamous pied piper from Everett, WA, Eugene Nastri; Denes Zsigmondy (UofW); Max Rostal (Germany); Nathan Milstein (Switzerland); Aaron Rosand (France), and Jeanne Lamond (Toronto, CAN).After a 36-year career with the Vancouver Symphony first violin section, Vancouver Opera, CBC Radio Orchestra, Carmel Bach Festival, CA, and many chamber music sessions, Carolyn moved to New York. Performances included New Haven Symphony Orchestra, Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, Pitstop Players, OMNI, and Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. She was on the faculty of Bronx House. Covid hit, so she and her partner drove across the country and are now settled in Ferndale, WA.Carolyn’s passions include teaching, staying fit, and gardening. Her heart-centered work revolves around her <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="http://ViolinforWellness.org">ViolinforWellness.org</a> program, born in Langley, BC. for a therapeutic riding facility. Ahead of the curve, it has proved to be a precursor of the now universally recognized Music as Medicine. Carolyn also had the recent pleasure of presenting her "Why Does Music Make Me Cry?" talk, tying in her years of creativity and outreach.Judith Widrig - Pianist Judith Widrig is a native of Syracuse, New York, earning piano performance degrees from The Hartt School of Music, The University of Minnesota, and a doctorate in piano from the University of Colorado. She is active in the Northwest as a solo and chamber musician, and she is a founding member of the Bellingham Chamber Players. Judith frequently performs with the faculty from the Western Washington University Music Department, and has performed as soloist with symphony orchestras on both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.

Steinway Artist Sandra Wright Shen has been described as a classical “pianist of the first order”. With her passion, musicality, and inspiration, she aims to move hearts through music. Sandra has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in 14 countries and throughout US, at prestigious venues such as the Kennedy Music Center in DC, the Chicago Cultural Center, Monte Carlo Opera House, Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, Frankfurt Cultural Center in Germany, the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing, Taiwan National Concert Hall, Korea Seoul Arts Center, Hong Kong City Hall, Granada Intl Music Festival, Recontres Musicale de Chaon in France, Brevard Music Festival and Masterworks Music Festival. As a guest artist, she has appeared with Charleston Symphony, Hilton Head Symphony, Redlands Symphony, Brevard Festival Sinfonia, New Millennium Orchestra, Greater San Diego Chamber Orchestra, Formosa Philharmonic Orchestra, Taiwan National Symphony, Taipei Symphony and others. Shen is the Artist-In-Residence of the Charleston Symphony for the 2017-18 season. She has played chamber concerts with Vesselin Paraschkevov, former concert master of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and performed on tour in Asia with cellist Nina Kotova.

Son is a unique blend of Spanish guitars and harmony, Afro-Cuban percussion and swing, call-and-response singing, and trumpet improvisation. From the 1930's in Havana to the present moment, Cuban septets like SuperSones have inspired people around the world to dance and celebrate.SuperSones represent this rich musical tradition with a wide range of classic and original songs in the many genres within the Son family: bolero, chachacha, guaracha, and son montuno among others. The group plays songs written by some of the greatest composers of Cuban popular music including Compay Segundo, Miguel Matamoros, Isaac Oviedo, and Arsenio Rodriguez. SuperSones recreate these songs with their own arrangements and improvisations to bring the Son alive in the Pacific Northwest. The group also regularly features original compositions firmly rooted in the Son tradition.&nbsp;Since 2001, SuperSones&nbsp;have performed for a wide range of audiences. The group plays private functions such as parties, weddings, and corporate events. Depending on the unique needs of each occasion, SuperSones play in a range of instrumentations from a trio up to a septet. In Seattle, public performances have included the following venues: The Triple Door, Club Sur, Northwest Folklife Festival, Sea Monster Lounge, Tractor Tavern, Nectar, Seattle Folklore Society, Seattle City Hall, and Seattle Art Museum. In addition, the group has taught workshops and performed at several Seattle-area schools, Whitman College in Walla Walla, and the Seattle World Rhythm Festival. In May of 2006, the SuperSones toured Belgium and Holland.

Etsuko Tomeda, PianoDoub Pearce, Bass Studied classical and jazz piano, Etsuko Tomeda entertains all ages for all events, from concerts to private parties. Etsuko's passion for music started developing from mimicking the Beatles and the Carpenters by ear while studying Mozart &amp; Beethoven during her childhood. She has also performed with chamber music groups and an orchestra as well as jazz combos in Atlanta, GA. Etsuko enjoys striving for creating sounds with different temperature - cool to warm and fun to graceful. Her jazz listener recalled his youth and said " the song you played made me cry and brought back memories I didn't know I had...”.

Family duo&nbsp;Two Accordions&nbsp;is a unique collaboration between father and daughter, both renowned musicians, and accordion champions from the United States.Sergei Teleshev has Ukrainian roots and spent part of his childhood in Ukraine. Classically trained at the Academy of Music in Voronezh, Russia, Sergei Teleshev has won many international accordion competitions. Being a founding member and accordion player of Trio Voronezh, Classic Klezmer Trio, Valinor Quartet and East-West International Project, he collaborates with many internationally recognized artists, ensembles, and orchestras, composing and arranging music, participates in recording projects of different genres. Sergei’s personal YouTube channel (Sergei Teleshev) has close to three hundred music videos with his participation, and the most popular of them are gaining millions of views. Sergei is a jury member at international accordion competitions in Canada, USA, France, Italy, Russia and Ukraine. In 2013, Sergei won the U.S. National V-Accordion Competition. As the champion, Sergei represented the United States at the 7th Roland International V-Accordion Festival, in Rome, Italy, where he received a special prize for most online votes on the festival’s webcast. In July 2017 he won in two categories (Solo Open, and Ensemble) at the International Accordion Competition in Victoria, Canada. In May of 2020, Sergei Teleshev won two 3rd prizes in PIF Castelfidardo World Accordion Competition in Italy (Categories JAZZ Music, and Astor Piazzolla Music Award). In October 2020, Sergei was ranked #2 in the “International Open Trophy” World Accordion Contest in France. He is the organizer and the president of the most prestigious Accordion Competition-Festival “Accordion Star International” that brings together the best players and artists from all over the world (more than 30 countries were involved in 2021 and 2022 seasons). He was ranked #3 in the World as a most popular and influential Accordionist of the Year 2019 by “Accordion Stars Illustrated” Magazine, Time Press, New York. Sergei is providing online accordion lessons, master classes, and educational school programs for all ages.Maria Telesheva was six years old when she started to play the accordion. Maria’s teacher is her father Sergei Teleshev. Two months after Maria started playing, she won her first International Competition. Since then, she has won several International Accordion and Vocal Competitions in the United States, Canada, Australia, Italy, Belarus and Ukraine. Maria’s talent is not limited to her exceptional duet and solo accordion performances. She’s also a talented singer, percussionist and dancer. She sings in English, Spanish, Gypsy, Ukrainian and other languages. In November 2021, Maria got the title “Prodigy of the Year” and was selected to grace the cover of the “Accordion Stars Illustrated” Magazine, Time Press, New York (December/January Issue).

From Bach to Rock 'n Roll

The Pearce Family Bluegrass Band was initially formed in 1986, when Traci put out an ad for a bass player in the Little Nickel and Doub responded. They were soon married, and added band members Wil, Molly and Cate who joined the stage as soon as they could hold their instruments and were sufficiently potty-trained. The family began touring together in 2004, playing shows all over the United States. Cate and John perform regularly as a duo, drawing from their unique and beautiful backgrounds musically. Classically trained at the Academy of Music in Voronezh, Russia, Sergei Teleshev has won many international accordion competitions. Being a founding member and accordion player of Trio Voronezh, Classic Klezmer Trio, Valinor Quartet and East-West International Project, he collaborates with many internationally recognized artists, ensembles, and orchestras, composing and arranging music, participates in recording projects of different genres. Sergei’s personal YouTube channel (Sergei Teleshev) has close to three hundred music videos with his participation, and the most popular of them are gaining millions of views. Sergei is a jury member at international accordion competitions in Canada, USA, France, Italy, Russia and Ukraine. In 2013, Sergei won the U.S. National V-Accordion Competition. As the champion, Sergei represented the United States at the 7th Roland International V-Accordion Festival, in Rome, Italy, where he received a special prize for most online votes on the festival’s webcast. In July 2017 he won in two categories (Solo Open, and Ensemble) at the International Accordion Competition in Victoria, Canada. In May of 2020, Sergei Teleshev won two 3rd prizes in PIF Castelfidardo World Accordion Competition in Italy (Categories JAZZ Music, and Astor Piazzolla Music Award). In October 2020, Sergei was ranked #2 in the “International Open Trophy” World Accordion Contest in France. He is the organizer and the president of the most prestigious Accordion Competition-Festival “Accordion Star International” that brings together the best players and artists from all over the world (more than 30 countries were involved in 2021 and 2022 seasons). He was ranked #3 in the World as a most popular and influential Accordionist of the Year 2019 by “Accordion Stars Illustrated” Magazine, Time Press, New York. Sergei is providing online accordion lessons, master classes, and educational school programs for all ages.Maria Telesheva was six years old when she started to play the accordion. Maria’s teacher is her father Sergei Teleshev. Two months after Maria started playing, she won her first International Competition. Since then, she has won several International Accordion and Vocal Competitions in the United States, Canada, Australia, Italy, Belarus and Ukraine. Maria’s talent is not limited to her exceptional duet and solo accordion performances. She’s also a talented singer, percussionist and dancer. She sings in English, Spanish, Gypsy, Ukrainian and other languages. In November 2021, Maria got the title “Prodigy of the Year” and was selected to grace the cover of the “Accordion Stars Illustrated” Magazine, Time Press, New York (December/January Issue).

Past concert highlights include giving the U.S. premiere of Benjamin Britten’s Rondo Concertante for piano and strings, numerous solo recitals and chamber music throughout his native California, across the United States and internationally, and has appeared with numerous orchestras as soloist including the Santa Monica Symphony, the Loyola Law School Symphony, the MUSE/IQUE Orchestra, the North Charleston Pops, Midland-Odessa Symphony, Victoria Symphony, Miami Music Festival Orchestra, the Westlake Village Symphony, the California State University, Northridge Symphony, the Antelope Valley Symphony, the York Symphony Orchestra, and the Tehachapi Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Stoll has also competed internationally and was named a Semi-finalist in the 2015 Dublin International Piano Competition and Finalist in the 2013 American Paderewski Piano Competition.In addition to a busy schedule of performing as a solo artist, Mr. Stoll is also a lover of chamber music. He has been actively involved over the years in a various amount of ensembles including ACE Trio (flute, clarinet, and piano) as well as a multitude of duos, trios, quartets, etc. all with unique instrumentation and repertoire.
