If you’re Melbourne-born artist SWIM, the answer can only ever be bunker down and push yourself even further. Dear Friend is SWIM’s second LP in as many years, and builds upon the expansive sonic universe he’s been intentionally crafting since breaking out in 2020. It’s a cinematic album to immerse yourself in, perfectly calibrated from start to finish. Or as SWIM puts it: “I had a clear idea of what I wanted to make, and I'm trying not to do it for anyone else other than myself.”Deep in the recesses of Reddit is a burgeoning thread of dance music obsessives who wonder precisely where SWIM came from - and why he is suddenly showing up everywhere. SWIM finds the notion of his being an overnight success highly amusing. ‘I mean, I’ve been doing this non-stop for five years,’ he says, having released over 50 tracks, including multiple EPs and a full-length during this period. “It’s been slowly building, to the point where shows have doubled in size each time I play.”Though SWIM started out playing intimate rooms in his hometown, these days he’s more likely to be seen selling out multiple nights at Melbourne’s iconic Forum Theatre or the venerable Koko in London, where he’s now based. It’s an expansive suite that never loses its soul, whether it’s subsonic bass and garage snares of ‘Be There For You’ or the blissful harmonic unfurling of ‘Everything You Need’, all of which helps explain why SWIM has made the phrase ‘crying in the club’ his own, a wink at the heightened fervor present in his live shows and recorded output alike.It should come as little surprise that SWIM is relentlessly detail-oriented when it comes to making music. That’s not just in the crafting of songs themselves, but in the sequencing, tracking, production and ‘world building’ of his work, from artwork to live production and even bringing ballerinas onstage. It also extends to the art of composition; SWIM being an entirely self-taught musician who views every new challenge as a potential further horizon. “I just have to try everything,” he laughs. For proof, just listen to the crescendoing strings on songs like ‘Memories’ and bombastic opener ‘You &amp; Me’, which SWIM arranged himself as part of a long-held vision to record with the Budapest Film Orchestra and bring the music to life. Scoring his music with strings is something that had always been on SWIM’s creative wishlist, and with the sweeping sounds on Dear Friend, he finally found the perfect outlet. “There’s nothing more cinematic or epic than working with strings. I've always loved records that have brought those elements in. So with the scope of this record and songs like Memories in particular, it felt like it was the right time to do it.”One could reasonably suggest that SWIM doesn’t make things easy for himself, but he would counter that’s what keeps him so prolific. “I feel like if I stop learning and stop doing things that are outside of my comfort zone, it's not going to be exciting for me anymore.” In setting out to create something for himself, he’s crafted a record that captures that pursuit; ambitious, emotional and undoubtedly SWIM.

The multi-talented artist can electrify an audience, be it with a moving live music performance or by working the dancefloor.&nbsp; Raised in Morehead, Kentucky on a diet of deep cuts by Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, he was lured to the dance realm by crossover acts such as The Prodigy and Chemical Brothers, whose influences show in his debut LP, Came Along (2010), a 13-track adventure awash in post-punk influences and indie dance charm. From there, he branched out even further with Hey There Kiddo (2012), an all-sample opus with deep disco roots inspired by one of his favorite albums of all time, Since I Met You by The Avalanches; and his 2012, The Scheme, explores underground deep house vibes with dark, funky rhythms. Most recently he has released his single “Those Days” featuring a Stevie Wonder vocal was released on highly respected dance label Toolroom Records. But as impressive as his original works may be, one can’t discuss Cornett’s body of work without mentioning what may well be the calling card of his career: the remix. An Amtrac remix has become a coveted commodity in today’s music business – from Majors like Interscope, Warner Bros, Def Jam &amp; Sony to tastemaker labels like Fools Gold, Kitsune, Toolroom, Defected and Ministry of Sound, along with a host of popular artists including Ellie Goulding, Alesso, Elliphant, Axwell, Ingrosso, Two Door Cinema Club, and Kaskade have all requested the Amtrac treatment, and each time he’s delivered (and then some). Known as a turntablist, he started his journey into djing at age 11. By the time he was 14 year old, Cut started recording with his friends (including Chali 2na of Jurassic 5) in an inclosed sun patio that his dad converted into a small make-shift recording studio. By age 21, Cut was a founding member of both the rap group Jurassic 5 and the Grammy award winning Latin funk outfit, Ozomatli. His involvement with both groups helped develop a taste for music and rhythms from around the world while keeping his passion for the hip hop tradition. His mix-tapes and remixes became critically acclaimed. His ‘Chemist’ moniker was fully realized with his instrumental, Lesson 6: The Lecture. In the years following, Cut started a series of mix cds with DJ Shadow using all 45s. Brainfreeze, Product Placement and The Hard Sell, the last of which debuted and headlined at the world famous Hollywood Bowl.Cut’s solo album journey would begin with The Audience is Listening which was released on Warner Bros in 2006. Written during a 2021 retreat to the remote coastal Oregon town of Yachats, Deb Demure leaned into the neo-psychedelic resonance of a uniquely bowl-shaped 12-string Ovation acoustic/electric guitar. After early morning hikes in the rain, Deb would record ambient guitar experiments the rest of the day, tapping into “flow states,” letting the sound lead the way. These sessions were then refined or recreated, and later elevated further with key collaborations by Rachel Goswell (Slowdive), Justin Meldal-Johnson (Beck, M83, Air), and Ben Greenberg (Uniform, Circular Ruin Studio). An Object In Motion is true to its title, capturing the chrysalis moment of an artist evolving, reborn and untethered, silhouetted against an open horizon.“Cape Perpetua” kicks off the collection’s divergent palette: sparkling acoustic finger-picking refracted through delay, equal parts raga and reverie. The latest EP from Drab Majesty marks the start of a stirring new chapter in the band’s majestic legacy. Written during a 2021 retreat to the remote coastal Oregon town of Yachats, Deb Demure leaned into the neo-psychedelic resonance of a uniquely bowl-shaped 12-string Ovation acoustic/electric guitar. After early morning hikes in the rain, Deb would record ambient guitar experiments the rest of the day, tapping into “flow states,” letting the sound lead the way. These sessions were then refined or recreated, and later elevated further with key collaborations by Rachel Goswell (Slowdive), Justin Meldal-Johnson (Beck, M83, Air), and Ben Greenberg (Uniform, Circular Ruin Studio). An Object In Motion is true to its title, capturing the chrysalis moment of an artist evolving, reborn and untethered, silhouetted against an open horizon. “Cape Perpetua” kicks off the collection’s divergent palette: sparkling acoustic finger-picking refracted through delay, equal parts raga and reverie. Melodies and moods congeal and dissipate, at the threshold of rustic American primitivism, brooding neo-folk, and pastoral melancholia. “The Skin And The Glove” deploys jangle to different effect – baggy, soaring, grey-skied kaleidoscopic pop in the spirit of Stone Roses, Primal Scream, and The Glove. Rachel Goswell lends her iconic freefall voice to The Cure-esque ballad, “Vanity,” infusing poetic gravity to the doomed refrain: “If the valve breaks / then the earth quakes / and history finds a way / to put you in your place.” “Yield To Force”, the closing track of the EP, may be the most anomalous offering of the set. A 15-minute instrumental odyssey of cyclical strings, ominous slide guitar, and simmering synthesizer, the piece sways and spirals like a long zoom into distant storm clouds. Demure finesses the guitar with a restless but regal grandeur, unfolding a panorama of peaks, shadows, and plateaus. It’s music both intuitive and prophetic, tracing the slow swing of pendulums across an endless plain. Taken as a whole, An Object In Motion presents a showcase of potential futures from Drab’s evolving domain, their sound poised to bloom at the precipice of transformation. LIGHTNING BOLT DELI GIRLS21+ 7PM DOORS8PM SHOWAbout Lightning Bolt: The band formed while Chippendale and Gibson attended the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island, and Chippendale had heard about "a new kid who was a whiz on the bass guitar." The two formed Lightning Bolt, with Brian Chippendale on drums, Brian Gibson on bass guitar, and with Hisham Bharoocha on guitar and vocals joining the group after their first show. Bharoocha left the group in 1996 to continue with another RISD band that would eventually become Black Dice, and Chippendale took over vocal duties. The only officially released music with Bharoocha was a track on the Repopulation Program compilation. For the first few years, Lightning Bolt was primarily an improvisational band, touring the United States for months at a time and "just playing". The concept of writing songs and recording an album didn't occur to the band until 1997, when Ben McOsker, founder of Load Records, approached the duo.During these formative years, Chippendale and his freshman-year college roommate Matt Brinkman began to set up Fort Thunder, a disused warehouse space in the Olneyville district of Providence. The space eventually came to house a number of local avant-garde artists and musicians, including Brian Ralph as well as Lightning Bolt.
