The band consists of Aiden Sheely (rhythm guitar, vocals), Jesse Harrison (lead guitar, vocals), Zak Johnson (bass, vocals), and Dillon Walker (drums, vocals).Formed after a string of prior projects that left its founding members wanting something looser and more their own, the band takes its name from an Italian painting technique meaning "at first attempt," a fitting nod to their instinctive, in-the-moment approach to songwriting and live performance. His versatility in songwriting and arrangements takes listeners on a journey, residing somewhere in the musical space between Radiohead, Bowie, and Cat Stevens. In 2024 he relocated to the triangle area of North Carolina, where he is very active, playing solo or with his band. Having toured with Mike Campbell (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) &amp; The Dirty Knobs and shared stages with artists including Ringo Starr, Lucinda Williams, Benmont Tench, Jamey Johnson, Ryan Bingham, Don Was, Lukas Nelson, Blackberry Smoke, and Shannon McNally, Hollye B has spent years helping tell other artists' stories. Now she's finally telling her own, starting with her debut single&nbsp;"Ain't Got Nothin' (feat. Mike Campbell)" out now.&nbsp;

The best teachers never stop learning. They listen closely, stay curious, and let what they discover shape how they guide others. On their new self-titled album as youbet (due May 1st 2026, via Hardly Art), longtime music educators Nick Llobet (he/they) and Micah Prussack (she/her) proudly act as both explorer and guide, sharing three-dimensional musical sculptures so confidently and esoterically their own that they couldn’t have been released under any other name but youbet. Created in motion and shaped between long stretches of touring, the album reflects a moment of ecstatic possibility and grit. Both sharpened and expansive, youbet grows from the confines of home recording and “bedroom pop” into something sturdier, louder, and unmistakably their own. “I myself am a constant student of life, of creating,” Llobet says. “I see people's creative anxieties because I have lived them. It’s very therapeutic because I can tell that I'm giving people strong advice based on all my failures.” Llobet relocated to New York from Denver in 2013 and forged initial connections in the local scene, while creating youbet and writing two albums, but it wasn’t until meeting Prussack in 2022 that they discovered a different level of musical connection. When the duo started playing together, they quickly realized their uniquely shared musical language and eagerness to learn from everything, connecting over a vast array of musical influence and their own practice of teaching. “Early in our friendship, Nick and I were playing guitar in the park and we decided that the Beatles were so good because they learned how to play hundreds of songs together,” Prussack says. “So we began our quest to learn 1,000 songs. Nick started compiling a massive playlist called ‘Learn Me’ filled with music that we habitually study and generate new ideas from.” The duo began experimenting musically, and their subsequent year of touring led to a new, more refined sound. “We had a huge opportunity for reinvention,” Prussack says. “Nick will never play the chord that you expect, and is always pushing me outside of my creative box. Their compositions are so exciting to explore, and on tour we began to reconsider and transform the kernel of each song to match our new environment.” That depth of surprise and expansive warmth radiates from album opener “Ground Kiss”, a late-night existential query written when Llobet found themselves adjusting to living alone after the end of an 11-year relationship. “The song represents an endless search for that something and the rebuilding that goes along with trial and failure,” they say. The song unites the spectrum between clouds of plucked Big Thief-esque glow and bursts of distorted frustration. To that end, youbet demonstrates Llobet and Prussack’s ability to weave beguiling musical and lyrical expression, pushing and pulling at the resulting mesh. Developing their finely tuned fusion between complex musicality and deeply felt emotion required more than hoping inspiration would strike. Instead, the process of creating youbet involved countless hours of precise engineering, meticulous craft, and gritty dedication. The duo were consistently listening, learning, and writing. But that hard work boils down into every facet of their work, including bringing a set of dumbbells on tour so they could keep active and stay disciplined. For their part, Llobet sees the resulting album as a statement of that hard work and the opening of a new chapter. “It’s the beginning of a new era for youbet,” they say. “The band started as a sort of bedroom project for myself, but it has transformed into something expansive since working with Micah. It’s like we’re running a family business.” The broiling “Undefined” draws from that personal soul-searching, a musical mosaic of life before and after a complicated breakup. Llobet first worked out the verses while waiting for a guitar student, a fitting backdrop for the song's balance of wizardly art pop experimentalism and diligent power pop hookiness. Co-producers Katie Von Schleicher and Julian Fader help round out the mix, the former adding synth glisten and the latter a drum backbone hammered into place by Prussack’s bass. The concussive “See Thru” rushes headlong through heavy alt rock chop, moments of gentler curve, and even bubbly electronics—a track Llobet notes began when they were toying with a Debussy piano part on guitar and then stamped in the harmonics and energy of Japanese hard rock band Boris. Elsewhere, “Receive” finds Llobet carving away at generational conflict, tethering propulsive bursts of guitar reverie with raw emotional vigor in the vein of Pile. “On the verse, the bass is playing variations on the vocal melody,” Prussack says. “Throughout the album, there’s unique interplay and variation that you can only get from a lot of hard work together.” Echoing their strengths as educators, the ability to voraciously learn from a breadth of influences informs youbet—from the dizzying score to Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo to dazzling flamenco—but their ability to recognize meaning beyond signposts and find connections to emotional experience pushes everything into a topographical realism. “Having respect for the canon doesn’t mean we’re ever limited by revivalism. There’s a whole universe of musical vocabulary that we can borrow from and translate into our language,” Prussack says. That willingness to learn from the past while building the future is something tied deeply to the band’s New York City roots, with so many visionary artists having previously built new worlds within the city’s confines. “For years, I was too intimidated to step into the scene. It’s been such a breath of fresh air to build this new craft, this new philosophy of songwriting in a scene I respect and feel in community with,” says Llobet. Compelling art requires an unimaginable burst of new life, a shift from two-dimensional ideas to viscous, sinewy reality. As much as the hard work bolsters the music, it’s truly the resounding spirit of Llobet and Prussack’s relationship at the core of youbet. “Micah has brought a lot of order to my chaotic neurodivergence,” Llobet reflects. “I consider her my musical confidant. She can be cleverly critical and extremely encouraging. She's probably the most opinionated person I know. Together we build this musical balance.” What emerges is an album that doesn’t just break free of its former constraints, but reconfigures them into something sturdier: a collaborative language capable of holding contradiction, growth, and connection all at once.

Mary Chicken Soup And Rice (MCSR) is the immersive rock-and-roll theater of LA-based musician, playwright, and filmmaker Matthew Dunehoo. A channeled trickster spirit in smeared face paint and tattered suits, MCSR delivers purgatorial theatrics—part psychedelic séance, part manic episode, part communal ritual—driven by live electric guitar, squawking vocals, and alien choir backtracks.Debut album “Que Linda” honors his late mother Linda, who painted the cover before passing from ovarian cancer in 2024. Gray YoungSince 2006, Raleigh’s Gray Young has been the ultimate post-punk conundrum. Rod Smoth is the project of Mississippi singer and guitarist Reed Smith. Raised among a family of southern gospel singers, Smith first picked up the guitar when he was eight years old. He began playing music with his family and graduated to heavier music in his teens, playing with various bands across the diverse and fertile Jackson, MS music scene. He released his debut album Rod Smoth in 2020, a beguiling collection that mixed the eerie quite of folk music with the darkness of stoner rock. After the release, Smith decamped ti an artists’ residency in Clarksdale, MS where he worked at a hotel and a feed store in exchange for a place to live. This was an isolating time, when covid hit, things got even more isolated. As always in difficult time, Smith turned to music. Only this time he was alone. Rod Smoth’s second album “Living in Nowhere” is a melancholy record, simmering with the darkness of everyday experience, the loneliness and isolation that comes from struggling in a small southern town in your mid-twenties. But it’s far from hopeless, a record about reaching out to the world from a kind of self-exile. There’s a new warmth and openheartedness to the music, a cleo-eyed look at a loss and a longing for something more. Nicole Tester is a singer/songwriter based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Her eclectic indie folk sound pulls from the roots of the Appalachian mountains where she was raised, intertwined with modern indie folk/rock/pop influences. Balancing wit and humor with introspection and insight, she is sure to cover a vast expanse of emotional ground. Her songs serve as a way to tell stories, process experiences, and simultaneously attempt to find common ground to connect with others.

Rod Smoth

LONG DISTANCE SWIMMER is the brainchild project of Matt Gaydar [NY] (Glenn Echo, Louisa Stancioff) and Zack Kardon [NC] (Southern Pine, Indigo de Souza). Born out of isolation during COVID, Zack and Matt started sending off seeds of songs to each other, eventually culminating in a collage of voices and guitars, making up an album. Tapping Jack Victor and Mike Johnson of the Asheville scene and Peter Brownlee from LA, the quintet booked time at Asheville's legendary studio Drop of Sun. Their upcoming debut album is due in 2027. Autumn House is a country-inflected alternative rock band based in Carrboro, NC drawing influence from such artists as Neil Young, Lucinda Williams, and Jason Molina, as well as some of the noisier alt-rock bands of the '90s like Chapel Hill’s own Archers of Loaf. Their songs, ranging from wistful ballads to full-throated rockers, deal broadly with the ephemeral and the beauty in the mundane. Autumn House is comprised of Bob (bass) Paco Marvelli (lap steel guitar), Max Randall (guitar, vocals), and Andy Seiglie (drums, backing vocals). Loose green is an alt-folk project based in Durham, blending elements of folk, country, and rock with poetic songwriting.&nbsp;

Dogwood Tales Purple mountains, empty highways, jet trails as the sun fades; Dogwood Tales paint in valley colors on their forthcoming album, Every Star in Rockingham County. Hailing from Harrisonburg, VA in the heart of Shenandoah, the band is fronted by founders and childhood friends Kyle Grim (guitar/vocals) and Ben Ryan (guitar/vocals), alongside college contemporaries Jake Golibart (drums) and Danny Gibney (bass). With its location in its title, their new album is as much a love letter to the local DIY scene, vast farmlands and surrounding mystical mountains as it is a portrait of present-day small town American life. While tracks like “Mt. Jackson” speak candidly about the experience of songwriter Kyle Grim seeing his once cheerful, tractor-driving uncle hospital bound, it also captures a broader, ever-relatable image of a society drowned in hospital bills and anxieties of what could have been, keeping us at odds with the ever present moment.Though heavy and personal in its lyrical content, the album was born out of a spirit of naivety and experimentation that breathes lightness and excitement into the music. Pedal steel chords and delicate harmonization between Ryan and Grim — who’ve at this point been singing together half their lives — accompany jamming power pop drumlines by Golibart, tasteful guitar licks and wistful video game soundbites. Whether it’s song titles like “Princess Peach” and the football games and Coca-Colas of “McMemories” Dogwood Tales speaks in a vocabulary previously unexplored in earlier works, unafraid of showing as much reverence for iconic fast food and video game characters as they do their grandmothers and local basketball legends. Or the achingly specific lyrics in “Angel Dreams”, “We drove to Southern Kitchen, you wouldn’t even play my favourite song. You cried in your fried chicken, the waitress thought I said something wrong,” it’s easy to feel like you’re sitting on a couch in the band’s attic; sharing stories, ambient Gamecube on in the background.The humming electric guitars over beds of pedal steel and earnest lyricism find ESiRC in dialogue with indie rock’s current Lo-Fi country romanticism, lyrically pays homage to revered American songwriters in the footsteps of Townes Van Zandt, but ultimately takes listeners on a ride through uncharted territory. It’s a ride through Rockingham county, through the moody valley, the tight bond of four friends coming of age in a rural Virginia town, and a digital age where loneliness is far too prevalent. Thankfully, we’ve got the stars to keep us company. bedrumor is a Greensboro based band led by Lazuli Ortiz and Ryan Mole. Their music could be described broadly as indie rock, but with inspirations from jazz. In order to convey their music in a live setting, they bring in other musicians to help perform and arrange their music. They take inspiration from artists like Herbie Hancock, King Krule, Big Thief, Ichiko Aoba and many others. Lazuli is the main producer of all of bedrumor's music, which is recorded in her bedroom (hence the name).

Dead Gowns Remembering it over and over again: the way it happened in Vegas, the way beginnings spill over onto endings. Geneviève Beaudoin, the Portland, Maine-based songwriter, went to Las Vegas to help a close friend move and start a new life there. But buried within that newness, there was an old and gradually widening fracture—and in that city, the friendship ended. On a certain level, we anticipate strain and rupture in a romantic context. But we don’t as easily expect or extend that same kind of awareness to close friendships, which cut just as deep, and hold up just as much of our sense of belonging and mattering. Feeling raw and unraveled, Beaudoin realized these were songs she needed to hear, as much as she needed to write. Back home in Maine, she began crafting her second full-length album as Dead Gowns. Recorded in a farmhouse at the foot of the White Mountains with Beaudoin’s long-time partner Luke Kalloch, and produced by Sam Kassirer and Colin Lester Fleming, Vegas is a series of raw, smoldering songs that suddenly gape. It is an album that watches grief move, point by point. Every track blurs place and time, as memory and self, seed and fruit, “hardcore and wellness” become refracted and indissoluble. The result is all bright lights and dark waters, every instrument a response to the ache of Beaudoin's voice, a voice which increasingly anchors the album as it unfurls. Lamplight Lamplight is the texturally dense, homegrown alt-folk project of multi-disciplinary artist Ian Williams. Born and raised in Virginia, creek-steeped in the foothills of Appalachia, frontman and songwriter Williams grew up taking long walks to make music in bands with his childhood best friends. After moving to the city and back again, and nearly a decade out of the spotlight, he returned to the practice of song, culminating in Lamplight’s 2024 self-titled debut featuring beloved NYC collaborators. Lamplight is an earnest exploration of the multitudes we all contain, with a habit of wearing the heart on the sleeve. Their sophomore LP, recorded in wintertime Vermont tucked away with chosen family, is expected to be released in October 2026 on Western Vinyl. He is often in love, is always left-handed, and is picking up painting again.

Circle Drive is a three-piece emo /alternative band from New Jersey. Brandon DiAraneo (vocals/guitar), Catherine Mako (bass/vocals), and Jeramy Orienza (drums) released their debut EP, “Pitchforks and Angel Wings”, via DIMM Music on November 7th, 2025. The EP, produced by Jack Rose (guitarist of Pollyanna), is a great entry point into the band that showcases all the sounds they are capable of. After a successful hometown EP release show to cap off 2025, the band will be hitting the ground running in 2026 taking their live show on the road. Lloyd Christmas is a mathviolence band from Raleigh, NC, known for their abrasive hardcore sound and use of samples.

RIYL: Majority Rule, Gouge Away, Portrayal of GuiltNØ MAN In Arabic, the word “sumud” translates to the word “steadfastness”or “perseverance,” and has expanded in Palestinian culture to represent strength based on these tenets in the face of political and cultural subjugation. The presence that Washington D.C. quartet NØ MAN emanates and the message they’ve continued to deliver has been of survival, an outright refusal of erasure, of sumud. Vocalist Maha Shami, a daughter of Palestinian refugees, details her worldview, shares her lived experiences, and purges her inner turmoil in NØ MAN, contributing an essential voice to the traditions of their home city and the global punk canon. Their towering new LP, Between The Sword And The Neck, will be their second album with Iodine Records. Over the course of the first three albums, NØ MAN, completed by guitarist/vocalist Matthew Michel, bassist Kevin Lamiell, and drummer Pat Broderick, have crafted material consisting of increasingly devastating tonality, riffage, and songwriting. On Between The Sword And The Neck, NØ MAN have merged the directions and influences that drove the creation of Erase and Glitter and Spit into a blistering new work. The songs tear angrily through the tracklisting, seldomly slowing down enough for listeners to catch their breath. Songs like “Moan,” and “Murmur,” provide respite from the new levels of absolutely pummeling heaviness and speed while the rest of the record serves new intensities around every corner. Between The Sword And The Neck begs repeat listens as Shami’s vocal performances now feel perfectly woven into each song’s instrumentation, her lyricism as sophisticated and meaningful as ever. The title Between The Sword And The Neck itself is taken from a quote from Palestinian poet Ghassan Kanafani, who in a 1970 interview spoke it to describe the impossibility of genuine negotiations between an oppressor (the sword) and the oppressed (the neck), signifying a refusal to engage in peace talks that equate to surrender or capitulation.To draw listeners even closer to the personal place in which Between The Sword And The Neck resides, Shami invites family and trusted collaborators onto the album. Opening track “In Spite,” is “a love letter,” to Jenna Pup of HIRS and Kat Lanzillo-Hidalgo of FAIM, featuring guest performances from each vocalist as well as lyrics from both of their bands. On “In Tongues,” Shami includes lines from Kanafani as well as Palestinian poets Mahmoud Darwish, and Fadwa Tuqan, each credited in the lyrics sheet themselves. Over the ending of the song “They Have Names” the band has woven in names of lives lost to the occupation, spoken by their own friends and family. In Between The Sword And The Neck’s most meaningful expression of love, Shami also includes her daughter’s singing on “In Tongues,” and her mother Kamelah Shami’s voice and poetry on “نزيف على الورق.” In this, Shami creates a connection not only between Palestinians on different sides of this mortal coil, but also between three generations of Palestinian women in the same family.&nbsp;Between The Sword And The Neck is a collection of sentiments definitive of NØ MAN’s career echoed consistently throughout its 26 minute runtime. Overton is a power trio based out of Durham, NC playing dark melodic punk with flashes of stoner metal heft. Featuring members of The Future Kings of Nowhere, Bellafea, and Night Battles, the band pairs fast, catchy songwriting with lyrics focused on death, trauma, and institutional decay. Their debut EP, released in July, has been featured in Idioteq, All the Cores, PunkNews, and more. WolvesX4 The Indie/Punk band was established back in 2008. And while it has gone through a fair share of lineup changes, brothers Brian and Kyle Woodall have keep their tenancy and with it, established the band’s sound. With Brian on guitar and vocals and Kyle on drums, WolvesX4 has created endless tracks full of catchy rhythms, bouncing guitar riffs, and sing-along melodic choruses. They’ve toured through 30 states and 12 different countries. They’ve played Pouzza Fest in Montreal, snagged a spot on the lineup of a club show at Punk Rock Bowling in Las Vegas, and have become a mainstay of The Fest in Gainesville, FL. Gainsay emerged from a cramped Durham,NC practice room in 2013 with a sound driven by dual lead vocals and a swath of American punk and post hardcore influences cut from SoCal to DC. Dante (bass) and Joe (guitar) deliver crunchy yet nuanced hooks while seamlessly trading off vocal duties with lyrical stories that range from introspective to existential. Ryan (drums) holds down dynamic yet almost mechanical rhythms with soaring vocal harmonies. Gainsay plans to release a studio-produced EP in late 2026.

The Schisms are an Austin, Texas 3-piece psych-goth band that sound like a cross between The Damned and Arctic Monkeys. Led by singer/songwriter/guitarist Carson Barker, The Schisms recently recorded an EP with Grammy award-winning producer Stuart Sikes (White Stripes, Cat Power, Lorreta Lynn), called “Tejas”. Hattricks is a band from Raleigh North Carolina. They use hypnotic grooves, ethereal melodies and kaleidoscopic haze to state their place in today's anarchic musical world.&nbsp;Hattricks has shared stages with acts such as Mexican Slum Rats, Scoby, Bluegill, and No Culture, and is preparing to expand its live presence around the forthcoming release of its debut album. The members’ previous projects have spanned doom metal, surf rock, and hardcore punk - an eclectic background that informs Hattricks’ layered, guitar-driven sound.The band released its debut EP, “Unglued” in fall 2024. Bright Modern is a four piece alternative indie punk band from the Raleigh-Durham area started by two long term collaborators; Logan and Matt. Influenced by bands like Interpol, Black MIDI, Violent SoHo, The Cure, and The Beach Boys, Bright Modern attempts to utilize surrealist lyrics with dissonant guitar chords and a prog-inspired rhythm section. Scivic Rivers Scivic Rivers is the show name of American singer-songwriter Randy Bickford, whose songs have earned him wide recognition from fellow lifer musicians and critics alike. Pitchfork described his writing as "tracing a single thought or sketching a single image throughout the course of several bars, building suspense and making you wait patiently for the pay-off". Bickford’s latest release, “Ghosts of My Life” (out June 5 via Potluck Foundation) blends jazz, country and indie pop through the lens of hyper-literate songwriting and Bickford’s distinctive baritone, which is often compared to that of Bill Callahan. Perry WrightPerry Wright is best known as the principal singer-songwriter of The Prayers and Tears of Arthur Digby Sellers. Currently, as a researcher, Perry investigates how people can make good decisions; as a songwriter, he mostly explores how we can make bad decisions. Perry wrote and recorded his first album in 20 years in the winter of 2026, Buried Utilities. Last Legs Last Legs is an indie rock band from New Jersey. Formed in 2021, they released a self-titled debut album on Our Days Are Numbered records in June 2024. Their music is a merger of eclectic influences including 90’s indie rock, early new wave, with influences of bands like Sparks and Suicide.

Late Night Lowlights is a progressive jazz band based in Durham, North Carolina, blending improvisation, groove-heavy textures, and cinematic soundscapes into a dynamic live experience. Known for bending genre lines, the group fuses together elements of progressive rock and modern jazz jams with a focus on storytelling through sound and light.

SLOW TEETH&nbsp;formed and started writing songs in Saxapahaw, North Carolina in the summer of 2021, initially as an opportunity for Robert Chamberlain (drums, synthesizers), Justin Ellis (bass, vocals, keyboards), and Jeremy Haire (guitar, vocals) to start playing music with others following the pandemic lockdown while previous respective projects were on indefinite hiatus. As the band's chemistry and highly collaborative identity coalesced, they began playing live in March 2022, tweaking and adapting their improvised post-rock compositions into finished songs and performing them in nearly every corner of North America. They released their debut record “I” in March 2025.Self-recorded and mixed in an old house that predates the Declaration of Independence,&nbsp; “I” is a great introduction to Slow Teeth’s sound - cinematic and dynamic music made by three sets of hands and feet transfigured into a symphony of sound, with deeply introspective lyrics about familial relationships, disillusionment with our crumbling institutions, and the relentless passage of time in a world seemingly upside down. It’s not all bleak - other songs lean heavily into the band’s extensive and varied musical influences (Radiohead/The Smile, Pink Floyd, Sigur Rós, to name a few)&nbsp;and favorite sci-fi novels and films (The Lord Of The Rings, Dune, The Green Knight), searching for a spark to light the way forward. Slow Teeth is at its core three people making music they wish existed, using the catharsis of live performance as the engine for creating songs and soundscapes whose reach exceeds their grasp.Slow Teeth has supported such acts as Explosions In The Sky, Xiu Xiu, A Place To Bury Strangers, Holy Fawn, hubris., and more. Matty Frank is moving &amp; we’re gonna show him a rip roarin good time! Matty Frank is a singer/songwriter/producer/person based in Durham, NC. He’s been makingmusic ever since he discovered the beat sequencer app on his dad’s flip phone in like 2004. Raised on a diet of Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, The Beach Boys, and video game OSTs, this former band/choir kid strictly composed instrumentals for years before finally admitting to being a songwriter. Frank is currently inspired by quite the range of sounds, from the pop-forward indie rock his American Sadboi EP, to the freak folks affecting the sound of the debutalbum, Dooda. Noted in the Triangle’s scene for his characteristic vocal range, omnichord virtuosity, and clarinet playing, fans describe his lyrics as being at once abstract and tangible, all-encompassing and painfully specific. With tons of passion and zero tolerance for bullshit, tenderqueer is ready to rage against the manchine. Based out of the triangle, Devin (vocals/guitar), Kristi (vocals/bass) and Rendon (drums) are breaking back onto the scene with a high energy mix of femme-forward rage and punk rock roots. Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but righteous anger is a girl’s best weapon. &nbsp;Durham, NC, songwriter Ben Newgard formed Bee Million with his brother, drummer Anders Newgard, and best friend and lead guitar player David Smith, before adding bass extraordinaire Lucas Tax to round out the roster. With sonic influences spanning the likes of everything from Angel Olsen to the Rolling Stones to Guided by Voices (after whom they’re named), Bee Million weaves together a rough-and-ragged yet melodic and infectious strand of rock n roll that will linger with you long after the music’s ended.
