Brendan B Brown also squeezed in a “Dirtbags Across America” tour, where he played intimate acoustic shows in 49 of the 50 states (Alaska - sorry, working on it). Most recently, Wheatus did massive tours of both the USA and UK with their old friends Bowling For Soup, to some of the largest sold out crowds both bands have seen in their entire careers. He was a finalist in 2018’s New York’s Funniest, 2017’s Carolines Comedy Club Competition, and 2017’s Carolines March Madness Competition.&nbsp;He has written for MTV's Joking Off, and appeared on ViceTV’s Tumbleweeds with Killer Mike and the popular Barstool Sports series Answer the Internet.&nbsp;He is a recurring guest on The Jim and Sam Show, Barstool Sports’ KFC Radio, and The Bonfire with Big Jay Oakerson and Dan Soder. Brendan co-hosted Here’s the Scenario podcast with fellow comedians Mike Cannon and Mike Feeney, and now hosts his own show, Sagdaddy Da Pod. A multi-instrumentalist, producer, songwriter, and visual artist from Southern California, Cameron Lew has crafted his Ginger Root project steadily since 2017, inviting a fervent and growing legion of fans into storylines drawn across mediums: captivating albums with accompanying films and globe-spanning tours. The Ginger Root sound — handmade yet immaculately polished synth-pop, alt-disco, boogie, and soul — takes shape through Lew’s lens as an Asian-American growing up enamored by 1970s and ‘80s music, specifically the creative and cultural dialogue between Japanese City Pop and its Western counterparts from French Pop to Philly Soul to Ram-era McCartney. SHINBANGUMI, his long-awaited third LP, and Ghostly International debut set for physical release in 2024 with a visual album component, translates roughly to a new season of a show. It finds Lew more poised, idiosyncratic, and intentional than ever in a new chapter of life, unlocking “exactly what Ginger Root should sound and feel like,” he says. “In terms of instrumentation and musicality, it’s the first time that I felt very confident and comfortable with what everything should be comprised of. On the more personal side, I’m coming out of the last four years of writing, touring, and living as a different person; SHINBANGUMI is a platform to showcase my new self.”Since his first release of “aggressive elevator soul” music and dispatch from his beloved weekly YouTube cover series during college, Lew has captained the ship of Ginger Root, able to write, record, and mix the music while creating the art and videos from scratch. What makes Ginger Root special is the project’s ability to weave influence beyond pastiche into a bigger picture, exploring that rarified pop pleasure center where referential meets refreshing.In 2018, the project delivered its first album in collaboration with Acrophase Record, Mahjong Room, followed by several projects including the 2020 LP, Rikki. Between each move, Ginger Root has played alongside many modern Indie standouts, such as Khruangbin, Durand Jones, Omar Apollo, The Marias, and Hippo Campus.With much of Rikki’s release feeling lost to the moments of that year, Lew decided to take a step back and try to write a succinct project to engage listeners for as long as possible. Jaye McBride is funny, smart and proudly transgender. Jaye is the first openly transgender comedian to perform at Madison Square Garden and is a regular at New York City’s world famous Comedy Cellar. In 2021 she was featured as one of the "New Faces" at the Just For Laugh's comedy festival and has also been featured at The Boston and Limestone Comedy Festivals. In addition to stand-up, Jaye speaks at high schools, colleges and groups all across the country about being transgender and how we can help trans kids from facing some of the obstacles and challenges she faced. Having transitioned in 2007, Jaye is uniquely qualified to talk about awkward first dates, strained family relationships and self-acceptance. In the middle of July 2023 in a Los Angeles studio, Deep Sea Diver mastermind Jessica Dobsontook a guitar solo but somehow felt nothing. Just days earlier, her Seattle band played a series ofsemi-secret shows for devotees at a hometown bar, de facto rehearsals for cutting a new record.The sets had gone well, but, almost immediately, the sessions didn’t. The songs’ essence seemedmuddled, Dobson’s conviction lost somewhere in the 1,000 miles between Southern Californiaand the home studio she shares with partner, drummer, and frequent co-writer Peter Mansen. Onthat first night in Los Angeles, she broke down, wondering what she was doing there, what herband could do to fix it. For the first time ever, Deep Sea Diver retreated, heading home withoutan album. Did they need to scrap it all, to begin again with new material?Not at all: Following a brief break, Dobson found a renewed sense of self, a trust in her visionfor her band and songs and her ability to capture them. After that Los Angeles hiccup, longtimecollaborator Andy Park asked Dobson how the new stuff was going over an early fall dinner. Sheadmitted she needed help. In that humbling confession, she soon found ways of working thathelped her reimagine and reinvigorate Deep Sea Diver and led directly to the power andbrilliance of Billboard Heart, Deep Sea Diver’s fourth album and first for Sub Pop. During this period ofsecond-guessing, she and Mansen sat near the wide windows of their Seattle living room, withher on piano as he hammered a guitar nearby. “See in the Dark”—a song about coveting yourown notions, despite the occasional sense they’re slipping away—emerged in that single sitting,its gothic elegance and pop grandeur proffering a blueprint for what else could come.That moment of domestic creation proved essential for several reasons. Before ImpossibleWeight, Dobson and Mansen wrote many of Deep Sea Diver’s songs together; this was a returnto that bond, which carried over to more than half of Billboard Heart. What’s more, the pairbegan recording more at home, too. They borrowed microphones and a small clutch of essentialgear to capture guitars and vocals in their basement. When talks later began in earnest with Parkfollowing the Los Angeles debacle, Dobson began revisiting those earlier recordings, realizingthat she had captured so much of that ineffable spark at home, where the atmosphere was of herown design. Mansen and Park helped convince her these weren’t just good enough to use butriveting in their realness. These early versions became templates and blueprints to build upon andframe, plus a way for Dobson to believe again in the material and, most important, herself.And from end to end, the material on Billboard Heart is astonishing. The title track is the onesong Deep Sea Diver actually finished in Los Angeles. It’s a radiant and magnificent thing, thebillowing synths of member Elliot Jackson and tunneling pedal steel of guest Greg Leisz pushingup an anthem for fearlessly advancing into the future, as best you can. “Emergency” linkshardcore’s famous vim to electroclash’s instant allure, Dobson’s italicized voice racing like agust of wind. Her brief guitar solo at the end is an all-timer, a few hiccupping notes suddenlymoving like a sports car in terrifyingly tight corners. Tender and vulnerable, “Tiny Threads” is asweeping anthem for anyone trying to hold anything together—life, love, themselves. “If ithaunts me, let it haunt me,” Dobson sings softly over a stillness framed only by bass and noise.She lets her guitar careen into feedback, then steadily sculpts it into something tuneful. It’s alifetime of anxiety and sublimation, crystallized into 10 seconds. Billboard Heart feels that wayat large.For a minute there, Dobson let that mix of art and commerce we call the music industry cloudher judgment and interfere with her impulses, a common enough story for anyone whose decadesof work suddenly yield success. She found her way out of that wormhole by embracing newness,whether that meant practicing songwriting as if it were collegiate homework, believing in herskills recording at home, or playing bass herself because the band had blown so much moneyduring those aborted Los Angeles sessions. The big but elastic bass lines are a consistenthighlight here, so: good choice.)Mostly, she let go of the fear that comes when we think about our jobs, no matter what they are,and remembered that making music is less work than a way of reckoning and playing with theworld, of healing and finding other ways forward. WXPN Welcomes Adrian Quesada’s Boleros Psicodélicos

Bob Mould – Here We Go CrazyWhen he calls, Bob Mould is finishing work on his 15th solo album, Here We Go Crazy. A distillation of the unfailing melodic skill, the emotional lucidity and dynamic fluency he’s developed over more than four decades, it’s also a typically bold realignment of his sonic paradigm. Its turbulent vignettes are scored by Mould’s familiar bruised tunefulness, but the sound is pared back to its fundaments, 11 songs blistering past in just over 30 minutes. “I’ve stripped things back to what excited me as a young guitarist,” he explains. “The energy, the electricity.”Part of the inspiration for this more primal aesthetic is the heavy itinerary of touring he’s lately undertaken, several years spent circling the globe, either in the company of bandmates Jon Wurster (drums) and Jason Narducy (bass) or just by himself. “I was really throwing myself in the songbook and feeling where the audience is at,” he says. “And they were really responding to this very simple, just-me-and-a-guitar setup. And I thought, maybe I shouldn’t be overcomplicating things, ‘word’-ing or ‘craft’-ing it up. Just grab for the simple bits of life we still have control over: our emotions, our relationships.”After shows, Mould would hang out signing merch and talking to fans. “Sometimes people bring a lot of their lifetime emotional content to me,” he says, “like they’ve compressed all this coal into a tiny little diamond. Sometimes I’m surprised at the weight of it, the heaviness. I’m like, ‘I’m here for you. I’m listening.’ I’m shocked and grateful they share so readily with me. I don’t know what I did to earn that trust.”Mould has earned that trust with every record he’s made, channelling his own “lifetime emotional content” for songs of wisdom, honesty and volcanic intensity. His first band, Hüsker Dü, bared his angst over furious noise and turbulent melody, an indelible influence on generations that followed. But by the time Nirvana infiltrated the mainstream, Bob Mould had already moved on, having sequestered himself in a farmhouse to lick his wounds and learn new ways to sing his songs. His solo debut, 1989’s folk-rock masterpiece Workbook, was a record of depth and sophistication. Then he pulled another sharp turn, his power-trio Sugar alloying his most melodic songs with his fiercest noise, yielding his most commercially successful work yet.&nbsp; Over the solo career that followed Sugar’s own mid-90s flameout, he’s displayed a maturing gift for songwriting, transcending the ‘alternative’ tag and recognised alongside key influences like Pete Townshend and Pete Shelley. He’s adrenalized classic forms, alchemised angst into something addictive and powerful. “I’m just trying to figure myself out,” he says. “After 64 years of life – 55 spent writing songs – it’s what I do.” The concepts that shaped the songs of subsequent albums reflect those years. The ruminative Beauty &amp; Ruin (2014) and Patch The Sky (2016) were written in the wake of losing his parents and other loved ones. 2019’s Sunshine Rock was a homage to the early Capitol singles of the Beatles and the Beach Boys, constant companions through his turbulent childhood. The terse, political Blue Hearts (2020) was written and recorded amid the dying days of the first Trump administration. Here We Go Crazy, meanwhile, arrives at another moment of uncertainty, a time of disruption and fear. Mould sees the songs unfolding like the three acts of a play, each act exploring distinct but related themes. The first handful of songs concern “control versus chaos”, Mould explains. The opening title track contrasts images of nature – deserts, mountains, fault-lines – with the tumult of human life. Inspired by a riff that Mould says “sounded like a fistfight”, ‘Neanderthal’ is “a snapshot from inside my head as a young kid: growing up in a violent household, everything being unsettled, feeling that fight-or-flight response at all times,” while ‘Breathing Room’ is “about feeling isolated, cramped-up, and literally needing that breathing space”.&nbsp;The furious, dynamic ‘Fur Mink Augurs’ signals the second act, where the darkness descends. The song channels claustrophobia, and “the cold, crazy, late-winter feeling I grew up with in the Adirondacks and in Minnesota. When the cabin fever really sets in deep – when the permafrost is set and it never gets warm – you become frayed, and things can really unravel, quickly.” ‘Lost Or Stolen’ chronicles lives undone by “people losing themselves in their phones,” Mould explains. From this focus, he pulls back and digs into “ideas about depression, addiction, self-medication and collapse… The words just fell out of me.” This anguished middle-passage of the album concludes with the cathartic ‘Sharp Little Pieces’, exploring “the end of innocence, the idea of a young child’s trust being violated. For those of us who lost trust as children, it disappears in a flash, and we spend years struggling to regain that innocence. And maybe it never comes back.”The song ends bluntly (Mould says the album’s “lack of sophisticated ornamentation is key – I was trying to stay out of the way of the songs, to strip away all the things I used to think were important, all those extra colours and complexities. I didn’t want to get deep into decorating the tree. I wanted to keep it simple, to use the simplest words”), raising the curtain on the closing act. The theme here is lifting oneself out of the darkness; ‘You Need To Shine’ is a song about “looking for the bright sides, the good parts of life, despite everything that’s happened”, Mould says, a sentiment borne out by the song’s spirited holler that “all that madness doesn’t matter anymore”. ‘Thread So Thin’ is “about trying to protect the one you love, and trying to feel protected”, Mould explains, while the closing ‘Your Side’ is a powerful love song from the edge of the darkness, Mould howling “If the world is going down in flames, I want to be by your side”. “We're heading into a great unknown here,” Mould says, of the wider geopolitical and climate anxieties that inspired these songs. The message here is, simply, focus on that which can save you and deliver you from this moment. “This album talks a lot about uncertainty, helplessness, being on edge,” Mould adds. “How much can we control? How much chaos can we handle? In the end, the answer, the remedy, is placing your trust in unconditional love.” Mould knows Here We Go Crazy is an album freighted with darkness; “There’s soothing melodies, and there’s lyrical discomfort,” he deadpans. “It’s manic, frantic, complex.” But no one ever came to Bob Mould for good news, for the easy answers. Pop music runs through his veins, as surely as the electricity that drives his chiming hooks into the realms of distortion, but he’s here to give you the truth, his truth. To give you songs that ring true when howled against a tornado of guitar, that compress all that “lifetime emotional content” into some kind of sonic diamond. There’s eleven of those precious gems here, sculpted to make the heaviness easier to bear, somehow. Treasure them.

Shaun Murphy is a comedian originally from Buffalo, NY whose like-ability and awkwardness keeps audiences captivated whenever he performs. He regularly performs at the world famous Comedy Cellar and has been lucky enough to feature for headliners such as Dave Attell, Mark Normand, Dan Soder, Beth Stelling, and Phil Hanley to name a few. &nbsp; In 2022, he released his first special “Neal” on Youtube and he currently resides in NYC. Sonya Vai is an International standup comedian. Last summer she had her debut run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and shows in London at the Top Secret Comedy Club. She has toured throughout London, Paris, and Barcelona with over 50 shows. She also won a year-long comedy mentorship for women of color from Sofia Chang's Unlock Her Potential and has been featured in the New York Times. Her very first television pilot was accepted into the 2nd round of the Austin Film Festival. Sonya performs regularly in NYC at New York Comedy Club, Greenwich Village Comedy Club, The Stand, Gotham, Broadway Comedy Club, and other comedy venues.

The band does not perform note for note recreations of traditional music, but combines these forms with Western influences to create a hybrid of the traditional and contemporary, that is both exotic and familiar. In addition to their many performances on stage and various media entities, Namaste has recorded a critically acclaimed CD, “Namaste-Colonial Pagoda”. Lynn Stover served with the Peace Corps in Tunisia, where he fell in love with the people and the culture. He learned to sing in Arabic and play the darbouka, a ceramic drum which is prominent in North African and Middle Eastern music.Dave Moyar, long fascinated by African-American music and culture, played electric bass in R&amp;B and funk bands. Julian Aguirre, a guitarist raised in Montevideo. Julian grew up with the rhythms of South America and the influence of electric guitar heroes like Jimi Hendrix and Frank Zappa. His interest in the roots of this music exposed him to African artists and grooves.Jose Canto Cruz, a Latin Percussionist born in Puerto Rico joined Namaste in early 2023, bringing a new level of excitement and musicality by adding Afro Cuban and Afro Rican rhythms. Trixi Greiner is a teacher and multi-styled keyboardist/accordionist who records and plays with many local bands including her original band Inca Campers, Irish band "Whiskey B4 Breakfast," her polka band "Ein Prosit," a funk band "Bunchafunk," and others. She is excited about also playing with World Beat band Namaste. The rhythm section has since been augmented by Dan White. He has played in numerous combos and big bands in south central PA and Maryland, in styles ranging from rock to swing to country and jazz. He enjoys learning new drum set skills and — as a newcomer to Namaste — expanding his knowledge of world music and rhythms. Namaste first played in January of 2023 at Tellus360 to much acclaim and a packed house. The band is looking forward to this return engagement at Tellus360 with an enhanced line-up and lots of energy.
