These three playful, creative and soulful musicians join forces for one not-to be missed evening. Come share the joy! Dawn Clement is a joyful and formidable force in the landscape of modern creative music. For over two decades, Clement has served as both a torchbearer of the jazz tradition and as a trailblazer in fresh sonic explorations. “In all this world of jazz, there are very few individual voices, no matter what the instrument, but Dawn has come up with a voice that’s unique...” says legendary jazz trombonist Julian Priester.&nbsp;Clare Church played her very first gigs with Tony Bennett, the Temptations and the Four Tops. In her 40-plus years as a professional musician, she has performed all different styles and genres of music. She was a regular with the Joe Henderson Big Band,and performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Carter, Nancy Wilson, Mel Torme, Doc Severinsen, and many more. She has played with all the Denver luminaries, including Ron Miles, Greg Gisbert, Art Lande, Eric Gunnison, Annie Booth, Gabe Mervine, and many more. She has been described as a sensitive, “music-first” drummer, and her many years of experience as a horn player make her drumming unique.Gabe Rupe grew up in the Denver area, received his undergrad and masters degrees at the prestigious Juilliard School and Peabody Institute, and is currently pursuing his doctorate at UNC. &nbsp;Gabe has performed at every jazz venue in the Front Range with all the cats, including Eric Gunnison, Brad Goode, Paul Romaine, Shane Endsley, and Greg Gisbert.&nbsp;

Andrew Elwood is a jazz drummer based in the Denver and Chicago areas. He is an alumnus of the Denver School of the Arts, where he studied with Greg Harris, Alejandro Castaño, and Dave Hammond, as well as the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts, where he worked with Paul Romaine, Eric Gunnison, Gabe Mervine, Greg Gisbert, and others. Elwood currently resides in Chicago, pursuing his studies with Dana Hall and Dennis Carroll at DePaul University.Elwood has performed at a variety of notable venues and festivals, including the Vail Jazz Festival, Telluride Jazz Festival, Dazzle, Andy’s Jazz Club, and The Jazz Showcase. Michael has found their happy place as a sideman, supporting bands from the sonic low end. Blues band, Reckless and Blue, is a five-piece, Denver-based Blues band. They released their first album, Can’t Give Me the Blues,” in December of 2021. Their second album, Seven Deadly Gins, was released December 21, 0f 2025. Reckless and Blue put a contemporary Colorado-flavored twist on the Chicago Blues Style. Their influences range from Howlin Wolf to Samantha Fish and beyond.Denver’s blues band Reckless and Blue, Winner of the Colorado Blues Society Blues Challenge, is headed to Memphis for the International Blues Challenge on January 10. &nbsp; &nbsp;The Andrew Vogt/Rich Chiaraluce Quintet pay tribute to the great saxophonists&nbsp;Al Cohn and Zoot Sims. &nbsp;Two fantastic tenor saxophonists, Al and Zoot first hit it big in the Jazz world in the late 1940’s&nbsp;performing in the Woody Herman Big Band as part of the “Four Brothers” band. &nbsp;Soon after, the two of them formed a jazz&nbsp;quintet and performed and recorded together for many years starting in the 1950’s. &nbsp;&nbsp;Andrew Vogt with Rich Chiaraluce on saxes&nbsp;and Eric Gunnison on piano along with Andreas Schmid on drums and Drew Morell on bass.

3 Bones for JJ: Celebrating the Birthday of JJ Johnson

Bucky Pizzarelli (b. Jan 1926, d. Apr 2020) is still held in high regard as a patriarch of jazz guitar. “Pizzarelli was revered for the technical aplomb that enabled him to combine intricate runs, full chordal accompaniment and even his own walking bass lines. His rock-solid rhythmic footing and broad harmonic understanding were hallmarks of a warmly understated style that always drew attention to the song he was playing, rather than the playing itself.” Bucky played on hundreds of recordings — including some landmarks, like Roberta Flack's "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" and Ray Charles' "Georgia On My Mind."Bucky regularly played with his oldest son, John Pizzarelli. They appeared on a number of albums together and played countless engagements, starting with a four-week booking at the Pierre Hotel in 1980. Because of Bucky’s prolific duo playing, we have decided to recreate the duo format as well with Clint Dadian and Sean McGowan performing together for this joyful celebration of Bucky, here at the Muse!Jazz guitarist Clint Dadian is fluent in a variety of styles. He plays with warm tone and flowing improvisational style. He holds a BA in jazz performance from Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY. Dadian is comfortable in small ensembles as well as in big bands, and composes original music for his quartet. Dadian has performed throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan with artists such as Houston Person, Etta Jones and Bobby Watson.Sean McGowan is a fingerstyle jazz and acoustic guitarist, and currently serves as Professor of Music at the University of Colorado Denver - one of the largest contemporary music programs in the country. Sean has been a featured soloist and ensemble player and numerous guitar festivals including the GFA convention (2021), Rocky Mountain Archtop Festival, Novi Sad International Jazz Festival, Pacific Lutheran Guitar Festival, Chet Atkins Convention in Nashville among others. His most recent recording is Portmanteau (2023), which features timeless jazz standards &amp; songs from great American composers arranged for solo guitar.

As an original member of Snarky Puppy, whose contemporary jazz fusion earned him five Grammy’s, Bill has showcased his talent in improvisation, a cornerstone of jazz at odds with his formal education studying classical music, composition, and performance.His work has featured across advertisements for a variety of clients including Apple, and Sky, and films such as Un Traductor (2018). Bill also composed several themes for Initials S.G. (2019). He was lauded by the likes of David Crosby, with whom he collaborated with on a number of occasions, including the score for David’s 2019 documentary Remember My Name.Bill’s 11th album, Bloom, a collaboration with the Untold Orchestra was released in April 2024. The second Bill Laurance and Michael League album, Keeping Company was released on 31st October 2024.

The Saints is a seven-piece band that has a real New Orleans feel. We play funk, R&amp;B, soul, and rock, both original tunes and cover songs. We cover music by popular artists like Prince, Jon Cleary, The Neville Brothers, Tina Turner, and Aretha Franklin, as well as newer artists like Dua Lipa, Scary Pockets, Paramour, Trombone Shorty, Thornetta Davis, and Susan Tedeschi. We have four vocalists who all sing lead (providing a lot of variety), and we have tight 4-part harmonies, which is a huge crowd-pleaser. Join us in honoring Oscar Peterson’s Centenary!Oscar Peterson would have been 100 this year, and we are marking the occasion with a high-caliber tribute show by the Domi Edson Trio.Oscar Peterson, born in 1925 in Montreal, began his performing career while he was still in high school, as pianist with the Johnny Holmes Orchestra. After a few years with the orchestra, he formed his own trio, the first in a format he maintained throughout his lifelong career. With the trio, Peterson quickly gained fame and popularity throughout Canada. His appearances at the Alberta Lounge in Montreal were broadcast live on the radio. In 1949, impresario Norman Granz heard one of those broadcasts, went to the Alberta Lounge and enticed Peterson into making a surprise guest appearance with Granz’s all-star “Jazz at the Philharmonic” at Carnegie Hall later that year. Leaving the audience amazed, Peterson joined JATP in 1950 as a full-time touring member. He formed a piano-bass duo with Ray Brown and began recording for Granz at the same time. He also added Barney Kessel as the first of the guitarists with whom he would form trios.Peterson then devoted more and more time to composition while still maintaining a vigorous performance schedule. His “Hymn To Freedom” became one of the crusade songs of the civil rights movement led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He also composed a salute to his beloved Canada, “The Canadiana Suite,” in the early 1960s. You will hear this suite in its entirety at this show.The “Canadiana Suite” a tribute to the diverse landscapes of Canada, drawing inspiration from Peterson’s travels by rail across southern Canada. Beginning in the Maritime provinces with "Ballad to the East", the suite travels west through the Laurentian Mountains of southern Quebec in "Laurentide Waltz", then pays a visit to the neighborhood in Montreal where Peterson grew up, Place St. Henri, in the song of the same name. Next, the suite moves on to Canada's next great metropolis, Toronto, in "Hogtown Blues", before heading to the great plains of Manitoba ("Blues of the Prairies") and Saskatchewan ("Wheatland"). Finally, Peterson takes us through Calgary in "March Past", and on into the Rocky Mountains with "Land of the Misty Giants". Explaining his motivation for writing Canadiana Suite, Peterson said "My profession has taken me to every part of the world, none of them more beautiful than where I live. As a musician, I respond to the harmony and rhythm of life, and when I’m deeply moved it leaves something singing inside me. With a country as large and as full of contrast as Canada, I had a lot of themes to choose from when I wrote the Canadiana Suite. This is my musical portrait of the Canada I love.”The Domi Edson Trio is a local treasure. The group has three albums- Without the Re (2021), Stories from Solitude (2022), and A Jazzy Hanukkah with the Domi Edson Trio (2023). The group has been on three tours across the United States and Western Canada- some highlights include Frankie's Jazz Club (Vancouver, B.C.), The Royal Room (Seattle, WA), Yardbird Suite (Edmonton, AB), The Alluvion (Traverse City, MI), The International Society of Bassists Conference, and Dazzle (Denver, CO). They also had multiple performances at Universities and High Schools along the way.

Kat Ellis Ensemble has made their first studio recording and are ready to share it with the world! "Talking to Myself" is a collection of stories told through jazz, with many of the songs reimagined and reharmonized to evoke the band's interpretation of the lyrics.Kat's musical life is inspired by her love of swing dancing and connecting with others. She is a C.U. Boulder and Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts trained musician who is authentic and accessible. Her gift of expression and storytelling using her emotive voice lets her cover tunes ranging from reflective to torchy, witty to sorrowful. She is the featured vocalist with the Denver Jazz Orchestra and leads this quintet.Band members Eric Gunnison and Mark Simon both toured with Carmen McRae. Charlie DeGrove is a bassist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist from Colorado Springs. He has played throughout the Front Range with various bandleaders and as a leader himself. He has privately studied with bassists such as Marc Niehof, Jason Crowe, Or Bareket, and Ben Street, and is currently preparing to continue his musical studies in New York at The New School this Fall. Continually inspired by the deep traditions of jazz, classical music, electronic music, folk music, and experimental music, DeGrove has a penchant for fusing styles to create something new.Andrew Elwood is a young jazz drummer based in the Denver/Chicago areas. Andrew is a Denver School of the Arts alumni and currently goes to DePaul University in Chicago where he studies with Dana Hall. He is also an alumni of the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts with the Jazz Arts Messengers. Elwood has studied with drummers such as Paul Romaine, Alejandro Castaño, and Paul Wertico. Samuel Hedgpeth is a jazz pianist from Boulder, CO that is currently studying at the University of North Texas. Samuel began studying classical piano at age 10 and was inspired by classical and video game music from a young age. Samuel started studying jazz piano in high school and made the Colorado All-State Jazz Band during his senior year. Ken Walker, a celebrated jazz bassist from Denver, Colorado, is renowned for his deep groove, refined musicality, and decades-long influence on the city’s jazz scene. Originally from Arkansas, he began on cello, switched to tuba, and eventually found his voice on the bass at Arkansas Tech University. After moving to Denver in 1985, he became the house bassist at the iconic El Chapultepec from 1987 to 1999, performing with legends like Freddie Hubbard, Eddie Harris, and Joe Pass. Walker leads the acclaimed Ken Walker Sextet, whose debut album Terra Firma earned national praise and charted for 17 weeks on JazzWeek. A dedicated educator, he has been on faculty at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music since 1991, mentoring generations of musicians. Honored with inductions into both the Colorado and Arkansas Jazz Halls of Fame, and recognized with a lifetime achievement award by Denver Arts &amp; Venues, Walker continues to perform regularly at top venues like Dazzle, the Muse and major festivals across the region.

Steve Conn has played piano, organ or accordion with Bonnie Raitt, Shemekia Copeland, Kris Kristofferson, Sonny Landreth, Kenny Loggins and a multitude of others.He is a member of the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame, and as a session keyboardist he has played on 12 Grammy-nominated albums.He’s a master songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has toured Europe with legendary bluesman Albert King, played on “The Tonight Show” with acclaimed vocalist Shelby Lynne, and joined rock ’n’ roll icon Levon Helm onstage at the famed Ryman Auditorium.He was a New Folk Finalist at the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival and for two years he was the musical director for Boulder’s own eTown on National Public Radio.Steve's songs reflect the depth and diversity of his Louisiana roots. CCJA Alumni Quintet KUVO 40th Celebration Series

Gabriel Santiago was born in Brazil (1980), 2010 ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award Winner, Gabriel Santiago is a Composer/Arranger/ Acoustic and Electric Guitar Player. Called by JazzTimes Magazine “a young master at both the acoustic and electric guitars” and his compositions defined as “stunners”, Santiago recently completed his Doctoral Degree in Music Composition at the University of Texas at Austin, where he won the 2013 Outstanding Dissertation Award and the 2010 Eleanor A. Stribling Award for Excellence in Jazz Studies. His solid background also features studies with jazz masters Pat Metheny, Adam Rogers and Maria Schneider. Santiago has collaborated with a wide variety of artists includingEsperanza Spalding, Chris Potter, Stefon Harris, John Clayton, Terence Blanchard, Janek Gwizdala, Carmen Bradford, André Mehmari, Romero Lubambo, Odair Assad and Gilson Peranzzetta among others. He also has collaborated with Recording Engineer Master Rupert Neve several times, and was invited to be the first artist to record with Neve’s first ever line of microphones. Gabriel has been composing music for a wide variety of ensembles (ranging from Symphony Orchestra to Chamber ensembles, Big band to Jazz Combos), styles and medias including Film, TV, and Internet.Elden Kelly Guitar virtuoso, improviser, composer and sound innovator Elden Kelly is one of the world’s best kept musical secrets. Audiences of all kinds are engaged by his expressiveness, technique and original thinking. As a solo and collaborative artist, his solutions to the questions offered in the format are engaging and unforgettable, and his contributions deep and far ranging. He also has a strong and haunting vocal style which he incorporates from time to time with great effect. Whether performing his original music or transforming a known theme, it always has the mark of the exceptional. Recently Elden recorded with Howard Levy (harmonica player from Bela Fleck and the Flecktones). The world renowned luthier Ken Parker recently called him a “once in a generation player” and being so impressed he awarded him on permanent loan a 1980 nylon string archtop called “Frankie” which he will demonstrate at the show.

Brian Lynch is a Grammy award winning trumpeter, appearing on dozens of recordings with Art Blakey, Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente, Phil Woods, and as a bandleader. He is on the faculty at the University of Miami and New York University, and taking time out from his summer involvement at Jazz Aspen-Snowmass to perform at the Niwot Jazz Festival and the Muse, where he will play with the Keith Waters Trio (Waters, Bijoux Barbosa, Todd Reid) and saxophonist Peter Sommer.&nbsp;

Jazz vocalist Angela Bingham&nbsp;has performed and recorded nationally. A native of the SF Bay Area, Angela studied&nbsp;&nbsp;jazz singing in her teens and early 20s, began her solo career in Salt Lake City, and eventually made her way to New York City, where she worked with some of the world’s finest musicians, performing throughout the city’s most famous venues. Angela now resides in North Carolina where she is an in-demand vocalist, performing regularly throughout the region and beyond.

Venezuelan Bassist and composer Gonzalo Teppa presents his new project “Gonzalo Teppa, Origins”, performing his most recent original music that draws from the musical wells of Latin American roots (Venezuelan, Brazilian, Argentinian, and Afro-Cuban), ballads, Jazz and more. Each composition and arrangement written by Gonzalo is inspired in the origins of each of his band members as well as his native country-Venezuela-. This new ensemble features: singer Josefina Mendez (Argentina), guitarist Gabriel Santiago (Brazil), drummer Alejandro Castaño (Colombia-Cuba) and bassist Gonzalo Teppa (Venezuela).
