I graduated, went to college for a communications degree, and finished feeling way more inclined to make music than anything else, so I hit the road. In these past 15 years, I’ve played in every state in the U.S. and toured extensively throughout Europe. I’ve had the honor of playing with a slew of incredible musicians wherever I’ve gone.&nbsp;I just released my ninth LP, Natural, and I’ve also released three solo EPs as well as a song-a-week project of 2008 called “52”. In 2018 he played 308 gigs. Phillip-Michael swears that “Chicago taught me how to hustle” which came in handy when he moved to Nashville and quickly found himself in rotation on the number one AAA radio station, Lightning 100. From there he released his debut album “Sinner-Songwriter,” toured Europe, had a song on national radio, played the Ellen Degeneres show, and opened national tours for Keb’ Mo’ and Caravan Palace. Eventually, he caught the attention of Grammy-nominated producer, Dan Knobler (Lake Street Dive, Allison Russell, and Bahamas) who would team up with Scales on his latest Album, “Good to Be Here” (out April 25th).&nbsp;Without a record label, strong financial backing, or a viral hit; commercial success as an artist is a mountain that very few people scale. Staying true to yourself and continuing to climb when plagued by false starts, setbacks, and crippling doubt is a much longer and lonelier path. Being self-managed for the majority of his career, he’s no stranger to 8-hour drives behind tour busses, prepping for shows in closets or stairwells, getting off big stages to immediately sell his own merch, or pouring through books to learn more about the business. Their debut, “Top Happy,” for Twin/Tone Records, turned out to be their finale. In the late 80’s his band Semi-Twang recorded for Warner Brothers Records. Both bands have regrouped in recent years and since then, <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.semi-twang.com/">Semi-Twang</a> has released three more collections of his songs, most recently and ode to his hometown, “<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.semi-twang.com/cds">Kenosha</a>.”

Shambolic guitars are offset by flute pads, bleary poetry is set against a Motown rhythm section, a song about Jerry Garcia and First Lady Betty Ford fades out with a drum solo, like if Talk Talk came from a dingy Philadelphia basement, and was fronted by James Tate. Songwriter Dan Wriggins’ ragged baritone cuts through eleven murky, swirling country-rock songs with profound lyrical substance and sincerity. Like an alarm clock incorporated into the edge of a dream, Caveman Wakes Up belongs equally to the conscious and subconscious mind, fraught with background, steeped in reference and experimentation, delivered casually and as a dire warning, dedicated, above all, to music’s creative soul.Over the years, dedication has paid off. Friendship has become a kind of reverse supergroup, wherein the band itself and each individual member is located centrally in an increasingly prominent scene of young folk and country musicians and songwriters. Drummer Michael Cormier O’Leary leads the instrumental collective Hour and, along with bassist Jon Samuels, run Dear Life Records, home to friends and peers who count Friendship as a major influence, including MJ Lenderman, Florry, and Fust. (Samuels also plays lead guitar in MJ Lenderman and the Wind). Guitarist Peter Gill’s band 2nd Grade records prolifically. Wriggins began writing the songs of Caveman Wakes Up on a downtuned classical guitar of Lenderman’s, and finished on a barely-tuned piano in an apartment he shared with Sadurn’s G DeGroot.In the summer of 2023, Wriggins had just left the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where his love for poetry and mistrust for the academic poetry world grew in tandem. A relationship fell apart, and Wriggins crashed for several weeks at Lenderman’s and Wednesday’s Karly Hartzman’s home in North Carolina, where he recorded the first demos of “Resident Evil,” “All Over the World,” and “Love Vape.” Wriggins returned to Philadelphia, and the band got to work on new ideas, finally tracking the album in five days with engineer Jeff Ziegler (Mary Lattimore, War on Drugs). Wriggins recorded vocals with Love the Stranger engineer Bradford Kreiger, and organ, violin (Jason Calhoun), and flute (Adelyn Strei) were recorded by Lucas Knapp in a West Philadelphia church.Lyrically, Caveman Wakes Up covers familiar Friendship ground — the sacred is profaned and the profane sanctified. On “All Over the World,” a landscaper “[feels] the beating heart of God/ laying down a roll of sod.” Characters complain about work and marvel at love. Here, however, we get Wriggins’ first real confrontation with depression, in “Hollow Skulls,” “All Over the World,” and “Resident Evil,” where the soul wages its perpetual war against darkness and stagnation. It often loses. The verses of Hollow Skulls are punctuated by passages of musical emptiness, a single suspended chord and brushes on a snare drum. When Wriggins complains about a roommate, shouting “who’s that shithead in my living room/ playing Resident Evil,” it’s abundantly clear there is no roommate, that the evil resides within.Caveman Wakes Up showcases Friendship’s particular genius for visionary arrangement, indebted equally across generations to to the folk-rock canon of Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, and Emmylou Harris, to Indie stalwarts like Yo La Tengo and Merge labelmates Lambchop, to contemporaries like Lomelda and ML Buch. Several of the songs employ fade-outs, jokingly referred to in the lyrics of “Love Vape,” and there are other elements lifted from Motown and 70s ballads: locked-in drum patterns, bass intervals, sentimental string arrangements. Each reference is pushed past genre, swirling and repeating, into something new and squarely belonging to the Friendship sound. On “Free Association,” “Artex,” and “Wildwood in January,” the groove is established so that other sounds can come and go seamlessly; mellotron patches, piano flurries and stabs, and clean guitar melodies, teeming textures disguised in unity. As a work of music production, Caveman Wakes Up is Friendship’s most advanced work yet, another testament to the band’s devotion and care.A droning chord calms nerves. They were part of New York’s post-punk ‘80s scene and played Indie Rock, Alt-Rock, Alt-Country, and Americana before any critics coined those terms. Heralded at their outset by Rolling Stone as "America's Best New Band," the resilient Silos mix punk, roots, rock, and sage art-damaged truth telling. Salas-Humara’s narratives take on the weight of attentive, convincing poetry and wry wordplay. The Silos have created a sound that's hard to pin down - “The band's austere style inflects the astringent twang of The Velvet Underground with the drone of R.E.M. and adds countryish echoes that recall Gram Parsons," offered The New York Times. John played harp and sang in local bands, often opening the show for nationally touring blues acts and quickly caught the ear of established blues musicians. It didn’t take long before he was releasing his own recordings, “The Jack Of Harps” (2002) and “Come And Get It” (2004), featuring Junior Watson, and performing in Junior Watson’s band.

Tickets are nonrefundable.A lot has changed since Americana, acoustic folk artist Mike Mangione left his hometown of Chicago for L.A in pursuit of a music career.&nbsp; At the time, the most common musical advice one would hear was to get out and play often.&nbsp; So, after a year and a half of gigging around L.A, Mangione purchased a van and began a life on the road, sleeping at rest stops and averaging over 150 shows a year.&nbsp; It was at this time, playing as an unknown soloist, that Mangione discovered three key elements of his music: Sonic subtlety, use of silence as an instrument, and patience.&nbsp; Fast forward 18 years, two bands, 8 releases and hundreds of thousands of miles later and these three components continue to make up the foundational pillars of Mangione’s music today.&nbsp; Subtlety, silence, and patience combined with maturation and time has given birth to a woven lush complexity.&nbsp; But it is not only the beautiful ethereal soundscapes that make Mangione’s music so special.&nbsp; It is how he desires to use it.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;“Songs utilize a broader palette through the power of imagery, poetry and mystery,” Mike Mangione, Americana and acoustic folk artist, argues, “to create a complete picture that is accessible to each individual from where they are at in their lives.”&nbsp; Each song is a form of communion between artist and audience.&nbsp;&nbsp;Mangione writes every song with that target in mind, as each song is a “dwelling place you can enter.”Mangione released his sixth full length studio record,&nbsp;Blood and Water, in March 2024.&nbsp;&nbsp;The album was produced by three-time Grammy winner, Larry Campbell.&nbsp;&nbsp;Mangione first became aware of Campbell when he was touring with Bob Dylan for seven years.&nbsp;&nbsp;Mangione continued his appreciation of Campbell’s work when he became musical director and collaborator for many years with Levon Helm, another of Mangione’s musical idols. For the album Campbell arranged a stellar band with Justin Guip (Hot Tuna) on drums, Byron Issacs (The Lumineers) on bass, Tom Mangione on electric guitar, and Will Bryant on keyboards and accordion.&nbsp;&nbsp;Larry Campbell also played on the album with guitars, pedal steel, and fiddle.&nbsp;&nbsp;All of Mangione’s previous albums have garnered numerous favorable reviews in the press.&nbsp;Tenebrae&nbsp;(2008), was&nbsp;New York Magazine’s&nbsp;pick of the week.&nbsp; Offering&nbsp;(2010) inspired&nbsp;Blurt Magazine&nbsp;to refer to the “tear-stained folk, Memphis-styled gospel and bluesy-flavored pop” as “luminous.”&nbsp; Red-Winged Blackbird Man&nbsp;(2013) received four stars from&nbsp;American Songwriter Magazine.&nbsp; But I’ve Seen the Stars&nbsp;(2017) was described by&nbsp;No Depression&nbsp;as "a country-blues/indie gem.”Blood &amp; Water&nbsp;is the title and theme of the new record.&nbsp;&nbsp;“All things of significance and value in our lives require a certain level of sacrifice,” Mangione explains.&nbsp;&nbsp;“’We often run from sacrifice and rarely talk about it as being valuable but it is the gatekeeper to most things that lead to a fulfilling life.&nbsp;&nbsp;We should learn to embrace and celebrate sacrifice as a necessary labor to the fruit of our lives.&nbsp;&nbsp;This record reflects on that reality in songs like “Anastasia,” “The Turnabout,” “Love Ain't No Easy Thing,” “Against the Grain” and more.&nbsp;&nbsp;The blood signifies the sacrifice, an open wound, pain and the giving of self.&nbsp;&nbsp;The water represents cleansing, rebirth, growth, life and becoming anew.’”&nbsp; &nbsp;

While writing original music &amp; lyrics to tell stories of love, loss, &amp; awakening, Ryan wanted to create a modern approach to reggae, setting the vibe using vibrant stage designs. Luma Knotty was awarded the 2019 &amp; 2024 WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) Award in the World category. Their first EP ‘Sounds of Earth’ was released in February 2020 and their full-length album 'Bring the Light' was released on January 30, 2023. Since the release of Rap J 's latest album "Unstoppable", the rapper has been featured on CBS 58, Fox 6, TMJ4, Miwaukee Journal Sentinel, and Spectrum News. Rap J's biggest goal is to give hope through music and prove that any dream is attainable with the right mindset!AmaraAmara Rappold is a student from the Milwaukee area who has pursued music since the 8th grade. Currently, she goes to school as a major in studio art, and works as a bartender in Wauwatosa. She is someone who has been heavily influenced by artists from the 70s through the 90s. Through music, she strives to spread mental heath awareness, and to overall spark joy to people of all ages. Some of her favorite inspirations include Jeff Buckley, Joni Mitchell, Ken Pomeroy, Neil Young and much more. She is currently working on writing her own album, and should have it released by the end of 2024. She is mostly seen playing open mics around the Milwaukee area, and is very excited to start collaborations with local artists this year, including Rap J.

Drummer Reggie Bordeaux, casts his nets with a mystifying subtlety bringing his own fleet-footed refinement and grease. Multi-instrumentalist Bob Jennings, lends his bandleader the luxury of implying a much larger ensemble with his multi-hued contributions on keys and reeds. Bassist Mike Fredrickson (a distinguished singer-songwriter in his own right) anchors and prods with the best of them.Paul Cebar cut his teeth musically in the coffeehouse folk scene of the mid-’70s in Milwaukee. First paying gigs took place in late ’76 with an emphasis on solo recasting of small combo jump-blues and other early R&amp;B. Upon graduation from New College in Sarasota, Florida, with a thesis addressing rhythm &amp; blues varieties featuring a hearty emphasis on Louis Jordan and Buddy Johnson, Cebar dedicated himself to trodding the boards in earnest and spent substantial amounts of time testing the waters out New York way while exploring band dynamics with a soul and New Orleans-minded crew called the R&amp;B Cadets back home. The Cadets ranged about from 1980 to 1986 and featured the grand original tunes of John Sieger alongside the winning assortment of B sides and obscurities that were the fruits of Cebar’s research. Concurrently, he kept alive the spark of his solo work with a small group which came to be known as The Milwaukeeans. Throughout the early 80s, this combo featured Rip Tenor on tenor sax, Alan Anderson on upright bass, Robyn Pluer on vocals and Paul on acoustic guitar and vocals, and drew most of its repertoire from ’30s, ’40s and ’50s jazz and R&amp;B.
